Dan Hankins 80 #1 Posted August 14, 2016 (edited) Pretty happy just picked up a sk-486 Friday. It's in pretty good shape, just needs a few cosmetic things. Any info you guys could share on one would be greatly appreciated. Edited August 15, 2016 by Dan Hankins

stevasaurus 22,955 #3 Posted August 14, 2016 That SK-486 is a great horse. I think we have a manual for it in the Manual section if you do not have one. Welcome to Red square I especially like the suction attachment that allows the horse to stick on a wall. That is a great storage option.

Al C. 1,428 #15 Posted August 15, 2016 One of the main differences between the C-160 and SK-486 is the transmission. The SK-486 has a 1" rear axle with 4 pinions. The C-160's have a 1 1/8" axle with 8 pinions. That said, I've noticed no difference in the performance between the smaller and larger axle models. I have a SK-486, it's a great machine. Congratulations on your find!

Dan Hankins 80 #17 Posted August 16, 2016 AL c could you get a couple pics under your foot boards, mine looks like it had bolts in the outer holes but there's nothing there to bolt to. I think I'm missing some pieces to hold the floor boards tight.

Al C. 1,428 #19 Posted August 16, 2016 Dan, There are two "clasps" bolted to the underside of the outside of each foot board. The clasps fit around the two rods that extend from the frame. See pics. Good luck! Al C.
Racinbob 11,370 #20 Posted August 16, 2016 @Al C. I just noticed that your motor is mounted on a plate. With the things that Wheel Horse did over the years I'm wondering if they were using up some motors intended for the short lived shaker mounts.
Al C. 1,428 #21 Posted August 16, 2016 Not sure. It's a Kohler 16hp K341.
Racinbob 11,370 #22 Posted August 16, 2016 It is something that just hit me. Normally the 10-16 hp k-series are bolted directly to the frame. A couple years earlier when they used the shaker mount it required a different oil pan to fit. It also reduced the oil capacity from 2 quarts to 1 1/2 quarts (if my memory is serving me properly). I can't tell for sure if Dans motor is mounted the same way.
Al C. 1,428 #23 Posted August 16, 2016 I wouldn't be surprised. Everything I've read, the SK-486's were the mongrels of the family.
Racinbob 11,370 #24 Posted August 16, 2016 I don't know if that's the right word Al. Some of the coolest models were made when they used up parts. You can bet the SK-486 will be on my list once we get back to Indiana and I have more room.
