What type of oil should I use in a 69 charger 10 Hydrostatic tranny. Panel on unit says 10w30 while manual says type "A" transmission fluid. Having trouble finding out what previous owner used.

You don't want to switch oils if possible.  Hopefully, the oil is in there...if it is tan colored use 10w30...if it is red use the automatic trans fluid.  If it is not reading on the dip stick, there should be a plug near the axle housing on the back...open that up and stick a straw down there.  :)

Here at :rs:we don't advise our members to taste any petroleum based liquids.

After you pull the straw out dab a couple drops on the back of your hand or something to see what color you get.

Speaking from experience gas, oil, brake fluid, p/steering fluid, antifreeze and battery acid taste just awful if they get in your mouth.........:)

Good thing you clarified that @DougC.  I was going to say that the ATF usually clings more to the glass, has a hint of blackberry along with a slight taste of mushroom and finishes nicely.  The aroma is that of elderberry.

The 10w30 goes better with fish and is usually on the dry side of the pallet with hints of oak and peat.  :ychain:   :handgestures-thumbupright:
