powderfinger 24 #1 Posted July 18, 2016 I find i'm not able to lift the plow high enough to transport. I've shortened the cable lift. also I've read in the brinly owner's manual about a hitch strap.it appears to put upward tension on the plow. is this applicable to mounting to a WH? any guidance is appreciated. CasualObserver 3,408 #2 Posted July 18, 2016 Can you post up a couple pictures? Did you find a slot hitch plow for the 857, or is it the common Brinly clevis? Which model? There are many variables at play here... type of hitch, length of bar, length of hitch.... need some more details to get a good idea. Personally I have a slot hitch, and it lifts quite high... much higher than recommended for travel I believe.
doc724 925 #3 Posted July 19, 2016 I had a 10 inch Brinley with a clevis hitch. My bar was way shorter than shown in Jason's pix above. I always had to crank the plowshare up on my way to the garden lest I carve a furrow in the lawn. Once plowing, I would get nicks in the lawn, but I learned to yank on the lift lever when I was making the turns at the end of the rows.
powderfinger 24 #4 Posted July 19, 2016 thanks guys. I found a solution by beefing up my custom hitch. Jason, those frontend weights look nice. are similar ones available for my 857?
CasualObserver 3,408 #5 Posted July 19, 2016 Yep.... just John Deere 41 lbs suitcase weights painted red. The older ones don't have the leaping deer embossed in the casting. You can find them for $40-50 a piece at essentially any swap meet that has lawn and garden stuff. You can still buy them new from any JD dealer, or order from Home Depot. Gotta make your own bracket though. Mine is an old belt tensioner bracket. Its holding up, but I'd like to strengthen it up a little.
