Hi Guys,

I found a Tow-behind model TA1 York rake on craigslist and bought it the other day. I love it so far.

I have a couple quick questions...

1.) How do you know how worn the teeth are and when they need replacement?

2.) Has anyone incorporated a weight system on the rake? If so, how?

Thanks,

John

Welcome! Take looks great. Typically when they're damaged you'll see it, they tend to bed and break. They don't really wear much. I've rented one several times for our shared driveway,  1/4 mile long dirt road. Rake works well depending on aggregate. I came across a 50" mid mount grader blade and it works much better for my needs.

Thanks for the input.

I have a 50" mid-mount grader blade too but for this latest job, the rake has worked best... Big rocks 4-6" partly buried.

Also, I have a 520 H now with the hydraulic lift. I actually liked the blade much better on my 310-8 as it had the manual lift and you could control it better.

Thanks for the input!

I've got the same one and it's a Great tool!  Super when rocks are involved and a blade bounces over or worse!  Tangs are fine unless badly bent or missing.  I wouldn't worry too much about wear.  You can weight them somewhat but I would go overboard if you have rocks.  Some have a blade that drops down in front of the tangs to go from blade to rake.  Nice feature as well.

One mod I did to mine that I really like is that I replaced those little wheels with bigger ((I'm thinking 8" rims) tires.  I found that the tines didnt lift high enough with the little wheels to unload all the crap that the tines had collected.  With the bigger wheels I can raise the tines to leave a pile of debri to be collected later.

York actually does do a tow behind rake with bigger wheels on it, but I forget the model #.  I can get a picture or a tire size if you are interested.

Picture of the wheels would be great. Thank you.

The model # of the rake with the bigger wheels is TA2.

Question: Has anyone had an issue with the lift handle not going into the forward raised position? Mine has a little play in the holes where it hinges and the rod on the bottom of the handle that moves the wheels hits the bottom of the tubular, not allowing it to go into the transport notch position.

Thanks guys,

John

With snow rapidly melting leaving limbs, gravel from the driveway and other debris I find myself trying to push it away with my manual lift solid link snow blade and I have enough sensation and control to actually have some success of pushing the gravel without too much damage to the turf but I'm wishing for a front mount rake to help.  I have a 48" York rake with a clevis hitch that works very well but first I have to drive over what I'd rather push out of the way and I certainly lose some control having to drop the load behind rather than pushing precisely where I'd like to have it so I'd still like a front mount rake, just like the dozer blade actually.  I suppose I could remove the dozer blade and somehow mount the York on the front but the more I think of it I'd also like lighter duty springs, then heavy spikes, then some short forks to perhaps lift and carry some small brush and a 48" push broom!  Last year I tried to finish most snowfalls by making a final pass with a push broom which didn't really remove the snow but rather mix it with sand or at least break up the snow and the Sun took care of the rest.  It worked splendidly actually!  So what I'm thinking about is using a dozer blade frame and creating a way to "Quik-Attach" a broom, spikes/teeth, rake and forks to the front.  Now one could skip the "Quik-Attach" part and just buy 4 more tractors with dozer blades and even though that is a marvelous justification to add 4 more to the herd I'd at least consider multiple attachments for now!

Am I doing a reasonable job of describing what I'd like?  Anybody done anything like that?  Heck, so much of the hard work is already done with the blade frame and I don't think the springs would even be necessary for the other attachments.  Some sort of quick mount on the frame and then a counter part on each attachment should make it all work.

Ideas?  Or heck, it wouldn't surprise me if someone has already done it.  Or seen it?

      Hi Guys,
Just wondering if anyone has any experience/opinions with the Agri-Fab Slot Hitch 4' Landscape Rake? I'm wondering how it compares to the York Tow-Behind 4' rake.

      Thanks in advance,

      John
