Wildhorse 298 #2 Posted July 8, 2016 My Ranger has a 32" gear drive 1967. I believe they were primarily used in the late 50's and 60's. Yours looks like 60's for sure

Looks like the one in pic. I'm curious now when they ended that style deck.

rustyedge1 169 #8 Posted July 9, 2016 Thanks guys. The old deck in photo was on a 1257 I bought at sale some time ago which had been rigged up to work but needed belts so after finding some and mowing for about an hour it toasted the home made system. Anyone need some almost new belts ?
wallfish 16,981 #9 Posted July 9, 2016 I use that style deck as a daily mower and could use the belts. BUT... I believe that's the correct deck for your tractor. It appears to be missing the shaft and pulleys which those 2 belts are supposed to go on to. If you place a wanted ad you can probably find those parts since many of the deck shells rotted out but still have good parts.
rustyedge1 169 #10 Posted July 9, 2016 It may have been the correct deck BUT had so many "home improvements" it was scary. I've already pulled the covers and belts, gears, housing, shafts, housing bearings, blades, etc and the deck shell is destined to become a Toyota or something. I am going to clean up the parts today if the wife doesn't have plans. If you need any of this stuff let me know.

Ed Kennell 38,021 #12 Posted July 9, 2016 List it in the for sale classified section. Or better yet keep it and bring it to the Big Show next year.
rjg854 11,349 #13 Posted July 9, 2016 Lead me in the direction to information on how to change the belts on one of these decks. I have the belts, now all I need is the best way to accomplish the task.

I pulled the bolts on the gear housing from underneath the deck ( both sides ) which let it move enough to allow the belts to slide under and onto the two pulleys. NOT fun. There is probably some simple way but I for one don't know it, sorry. 2 hours ago, Ed Kennell said: List it in the for sale classified section.
