OfficerBear 0 #1 Posted July 5, 2016 Well...my title says it all. Had a neighbors cousin in need and I had come across a 79 C101 that was given to me. He took it home and brought it back...told me it wouldn't move. I checked the drive belt and seen it was moving fine and examined the wheel and the axle shaft is spinning right through the wheel. Where can I purchase a keyhole to fit that? IDK if that's what the part is called but that's what I'm going to call it until corrected.
AMC RULES 37,134 #2 Posted July 5, 2016 (edited) Sounds like your "woodruff key" got sheared off. Semi circular piece of metal that slides into a key way on the end of your axle. Then, the keyway in your hub slides over that...thereby, locking the two together. You'll have to first, remove your wheel, and hub assembly to inspect the damage. Hopefully, it's just the woodruff key itself that broken, and not the axle, or hub as well. You're local hardware store should have new woodruff keys. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,107 #3 Posted July 5, 2016 The axle Woodruff key should be part number 937108 which is a Woodruff #22. (1/4" x 1-3/8") Garry

C-101plowerpower 1,605 #5 Posted July 5, 2016 as is said above the woodruff key is kaput, take the wheel off the hub, take the hub off the axle and check both for damage. if either is damaged severely you might need new ones of those too. oh and while youre at it make sure you've got the right size hub for the axle, i had a 1 1/8 hub on a 1 inch axle, that didn't work either
