The 416-8 Came Home With Me Today

Runs and drives good.  Needs the steering looked at, it pops when you turn the wheel.  Left rear tire is shot and needs replacing.  I might replace both back tires with some ags.  Deck needs blades and a spindle. I might restore this or leave it alone as is and just fix what's wrong.  Oh, and it will get a new seat.  Per the id plate, it's a 1988.  BTW, sorry for the lousy, blurry, dark photos.  My iPhone is almost as old as this tractor.

Nice. a lot of 400 series tractors I've run across have the steering issue for some reason   Steering support is always busted.

nice grab. I have one myself. very capable machine. and that big single really has the juice. the seat is tricky cause of the oddball bolt pattern. best of luck.

Just got a seat, the 110 lowback from - https://www.surpluscenter.com   - to put on my 1077. The 7 1/2" X 7" bolt patern worked with no problem. This seat is wider than the origional so I used spacers between the seat and the pan with a longer bolt. I think if it was mounted on the the adjustable sliders it would work with no problem at all and may get a set to put on mine. Very comfortable seat. They have a wide variety of seats and other equipment thatmight be usefull.         -----       https://www.surpluscenter.com

Ok gentleman. Progress re. Items

 

The manuals etc. We're pointed about by Garry. A big thank you for that. Re the gas seat spring I have one ordered from auto zone. Will keep you guys updated when that happens.

 

The big news was finding the replacement seat with that odd bolt spacing 7 1/2 inches by 8 inches. Well a big thank you to surplus center tip off. They had the seat. The dimensions on the seat are a bit smaller. But I think it's great. I just finished installing it. Pictures below. Thanks again for the tip. And if anyone needs a seat this is a beauty. 39 bucks plus shipping. Any questions. Please ask me.

The seats, on the shelf at Tractor Supply work fine. Bolt pattern matches is correct, pan is steel.

The way the rubberized seat cover just stretches over the seat, easy to remove and replace.

The foam can be easily removed and replaced. Drill and mount the seat pan as required, replace foam and seat cover.

I did this to one seat sometime ago. Was simply enough.

I went out this morning and took more pictures.  I put on an old tire and rim that I had lying around since the one wouldn't hold air for more than a few seconds.  One thing I noticed is that the lift mechanism doesn't seem to be working right, I have to look at that.  Also, that round headlight has to go.

Looking at the bolt pattern on that seat, I don't think it will fit.  I measured the bolt pattern on my seat and it's 7.5 inches from side to side and 8 inches front to back.  I don't see that in this seat's bolt pattern drawing.

Original style seat. Bolt pattern should be close enough to make it work. Thinking mine has slots in the mount but can't really remember.

I pull off the track that the seat bolts to.  The square holes is where the seat bolts to.  As you can see, the distance between those square holes is 8 inches.  So, I would have to drill new holes to accommodate anything less than 8 inches.  The track will only go so far in from each end, so I might get 7 inches if I drill a half inch in from each hole, but that would be about all I could go in.  The slots is on the other part of the bracket where the long bolts in the tracks bolt to.  So, there is no slots to accommodate anything less than 8 inches unless new holes are drill.

The seat that I put on my 416 was a KM-123. Here is the link. The bolt pattern on the bottom has the configuration that you need.

Ordered the washers for the steering from Parts Tree a few days ago and installed them yesterday.  No more popping of the steering when it reaches lock.  Steering fixed.  Now I need a left headlight bezel.  And I should have a clevis hitch coming my way soon.
