Fun Engineer 859 #1 Posted June 14, 2016 (edited) So there is a new powder coating shop in town. I was quoted a price of $18 each for rear wheel rims. For those of you that have had powder coating done, Does that sound like a fair price? Edited June 14, 2016 by Fun Engineer
dclarke 4,046 #2 Posted June 14, 2016 I think I paid about $20 a wheel to have mine done.
Fun Engineer 859 #3 Posted June 14, 2016 Thanks Denny. Did you have a lot of pitting? And how did it look afterwards
dclarke 4,046 #4 Posted June 14, 2016 No pitting to speak of, Dave. I think they look great.
ACman 7,624 #5 Posted June 14, 2016 I don't know the cost but my fenders are pitted . I'm sure that one of the TV programs I watch , said that there are some fillers that can be used with the powder coating process .
rmaynard 15,730 #6 Posted June 14, 2016 (edited) PM member @Martin He is a powder coater by trade and can answer your questions. Before my powder coater stopped doing it for anyone other than himself, he would charge me $50 for all four wheels. JPWH 6,145 #7 Posted June 14, 2016 Those are some fantastic prices. When I checked in Atlanta the only shops that would do it wanted 200.00 per wheel.

Fun Engineer 859 #10 Posted June 15, 2016 Good info guys thanks. Going to take him a wheel to look at tomorrow and a small part show me an example of his work.
RedRanger 1,468 #11 Posted June 15, 2016 My guy charges about $25 a wheel to blast and coat. If not pitted, they turn out like new. If pitted, you'll see the pitting afterwards. He also did my seat for my 401 which had about 6 layers of paint making it look smooth. Once blasted, it was very pitted. He said he put two heavy coats on it to smooth it. I'm not sure if this means he baked it twice or just laid extra material on it, but it turned out pretty nice considering what it was. Nice thing about powder coating is it is so tough and hard to scratch. Best thing about powder coat is handing the rusty parts to the powder coater and getting them back a few days later DONE! No hours spent over the sand blaster and no time painting. Also had a deck done and added teflon to the powder. Underneath stays really clean.
bmsgaffer 2,046 #12 Posted July 8, 2016 Man I cant find a shop around that will charge me less than $250 for four wheels blasted and coated.

Do they understand the smaller size they're dealing with? I had two coaters pricing the same as car wheels until they saw them.
bmsgaffer 2,046 #14 Posted July 8, 2016 To be fair I haven't stopped at any in person, but I should. I do make it very clear that they are garden tractor wheels and give them approximate sizes. Now that I work out in the boonies I need to get a hold of some of these smaller shops and see what they charge.
kdeatrick 145 #15 Posted July 13, 2016 (edited) I just paid $170 to have all 4 done. He had them burned before blasting to cut down on the time. I had them done at LPC in Hanover, PA http://lincolnwaypowdercoating.com/. I'm very pleased with his work. Perhaps the charge is a little higher, but he's doing a lot of racing work as well as from a large welding shop so he can get these type prices. After I'd already dropped them off, Carma Coatings http://carmacoatings.com/ called me back and the price they quoted was a good bit cheaper, but he took a while getting back to me.
