ClassicTractorProfessor 5,314 #1 Posted June 12, 2016 So I was out doing about 5 hrs of brush beating this afternoon and got to thinking...it's pretty obvious that our favorite garden tractors are Wheel Horse, but what about bigger tractors. My preference would have to be Massey Ferguson...in the ten yrs I've been helping this family with their hay operation this little Massey 135 diesel has been nothing but good to us...only thing we have had to do to it in ten years is one battery and a new water pump last summer.

The Ford 1520 is a good tractor...Dad has one that he uses to mow the rifle range out at his place...it's ran for years without any major problems
Phatboy 565 #5 Posted June 13, 2016 Hands down for me if i ever got a larger tractor would be a John Deere,,, for me they are neck and neck with WH also,, if i didnt have a nice 520 i would have a JD with a Yanmar diesel in it for sure ,, like a 332 or a 420 JD ,, with the Yanmar in them they are a super durable long lasting worry free tractor,, IMO,,

russellmc301 600 #9 Posted June 13, 2016 (edited) i want a tractor with 4020 with a turbo or a 5020 Edited June 13, 2016 by russellmc301
Wishin4a416 2,191 #10 Posted June 13, 2016 I must say We have a fettish for Orange here on the Farmette. I have run Massey's, Ford's and IH's for a friend with a 400 acre Dairy and must say the big IH was a lot of fun to run. A 1466 or something like that with dulies and a Turbo. That thing could turn some furrows quick.

The 4320 and 4520 were the same tractor and engine except they came with a turbo. My favorite tractor is Cockshutt, innovations like first company with live PTO, good weight balance, and great HP to weight ratio made these awesome tractors. I really like my model 30, and my model 20 Deluxe is a good tractor too.

ACman 7,618 #15 Posted June 13, 2016 Well , if you know me I prefer the AC Orange and if I had to chose just one it would be a D21. IMO one of the finest looking tractors of all time. I do have my favorites of other manufacturers but I'd need a ton of space to list them all .
Molon_Labe 731 #16 Posted June 13, 2016 Grew up on Farmall H and M's. Thought I'd died and gone to heaven the first time I operated a then new JD 4020. First motorized vehicle I ever drove was a Ferguson. Guess I just like them all.
JAinVA 4,619 #17 Posted June 14, 2016 Grew up on two cylinder JDs.Got 8 or ten now.The 41 IH H in the yard makes me wonder how JD ever competed. That old girl is smooth. The Ford 3400 loader is my go to.I put a set of forks on it and use it for everything. They all have good and bad points and I appreciate them all.If they don't perform, they are gone.JAinVA

Pullstart 62,889 #19 Posted June 16, 2016 I remember my uncle around his house always had some type of Ford tractor restored, but always ready to work. I'm a Chevy guy through and through, but would love to have a Ford tractor some day. Grandpa has two, a 9n split in half waiting for an engine rebuild (time to do it) and he has (I think) a 3400 used for tilling and planting the back field duty and they are a blast to drive. I haven't worked much else, but looking forward to moving to the property so my wife can run her AC WD45 a bit more!

ACman 7,618 #21 Posted July 16, 2016 This is kind of crazy . I got the picture of the D21 with a screen shot from Wikipedia . On closer examination, this tractor belongs to a person that I know (pretty sure we sold him some parts , and I'm good friends with his niece and nephew) . The picture was taken at our local steam engine and threshers show , which is coming up at the end of the month. Small world!
