Info on 211-5 (I'm New)

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Just bought myself a 1985 211-5.  Was sitting in a barn for 25+ years, covered in about 2 inches of dust.  An acquaintance bought it through an estate sale, but doesn't have a yard and sold it to me for $400.  Not a single inch or rust, all original parts, and fired up and ran beautifully on the first try.  Mowed with it for the first time yesterday, and did well with the exception of the mower belt slipping off (already have a new one).

Looks like it cut a little unevenly, so I'll look at the blades, wheels, and level on the mower deck.

Just looking for general info on the model and thoughts to whether or not I got a good deal on it.  Also, looking for recommendations of where I can get accessories for it, specifically a small plow.

Thanks all.

Welcome to Red Square  I think you did OK, she looks real nice.  If you scroll down on the main page to the "Manual" section, you can find and print out the tractor and the mower deck manuals.  :)

Guys, one more question:

37" side discharge mower deck.  What kind of blades should I be buying?  They need replaced and the manuals didn't say anything about the blades.

Will guess you have this 2-blade deck. Looks like a different blade is required with a bagger. Have a bagger?

WHX??

Take one of the old blades off and see if there is a number stamped on it. Should be able to punch that number into google or ebay and find all kinds of them. Verify the number with what Garry posted to make sure the ones you have are correct.

I bought my 211-5 new in 1989 from Hindles Power Equipment in MA (still in business), with a bagger for $2,100.  It has been a beast of a mower. I have done very little to it besides the basics. 33 years!  I have a 312-8, 314-8 and C121 as well. But if you want just a basic but rugged mower, and are only ever going to use it for mowing, it’s hard to beat the value of a 200 series tractor.

Hey, I just got a 211-5 and I was wondering if there is a snow plow for it and what model it is, and if anyone has one for sale. Model 3211bx02

Hi I'm new to the forums.  Don't yet own a Wheel Horse but was hoping for some input from this knowledgable community.

I'm in NW PA and need a machine that can remove snow from my 1/4-mile long, up and down, gravel driveway.  I've come across a number of lawn/garden tractors for sale locally.  One that caught my attention is a Wheel Horse 211-5.  It comes with a one-stage snow blower and a mowing deck.  And it's very reasonably priced- if it's still available.  I like the idea of a lawn/garden tractor for this work since I can use it year round, rather than a dedicated snow blower that would sit most of the year.

I did a bit of research here and it seems there are strong opinions on vertical vs horizontal engines on these machines.

My first question is how can I tell the difference?

Secondly, in your experience would this machine be up to the task?  I fear it might be over-matched for the snow removal duties.

If you think this machine might be a good fit, what should I be looking for when I go look at it?

And if this machine is not what you'd recommend, what would you recommend?

We're just at the southern edge of the snow belt so although we get our share of snow it's nothing like further north or Buffalo area.   But it would certainly get used a couple dozen times a season if not more.

      Thanks in advance.
      Peter
