AlwaysLookin80 1,308 #1 Posted June 4, 2016 I restored a 400 last year for myself and now my daughter wants a pink one for the local show here. I have 6 and figured I could sacrifice one to be pink. Here's the start of the project. First picture is how I picked it up. We got it apart and the parts That will be pink are on the ground, I have the fenders and tool box too. Those will be pink. Frame and everything else will be tan or black. Looking to make something like the pink one in another picture. Last picture is of my 400 I did last year but it got to cold to paint the engine. They will be done for the local show in July. I'll post progress as I go.

Plus, I can always paint it the right color down the road if she doesn't keep it or grows out if it. It's great spending time with her at this age. AlwaysLookin80 1,308 #6 Posted June 10, 2016 Got everything power washed today. I'll start paint prep this Sunday on some of the parts. I'll get the frame bare start on that part of the project next week. Gas tank is in great condition, and held water too.
russellmc301 600 #7 Posted June 10, 2016 what are you useing to prep it? looks alot like my suburban right now
AlwaysLookin80 1,308 #8 Posted June 11, 2016 (edited) Wire brush it by hand, then a medium corse sanding followed by a fine grit sanding. Then I blow it off with high pressure air and wipe the parts down with mineral spirits on a rag, then when it dries , I wipe it with a clean dry cloth, then I prime and then paint. Usually works well for me. Edited June 11, 2016 by J.A.

AlwaysLookin80 1,308 #13 Posted June 14, 2016 Rustoleum 2x ultra cover painters touch primer and the same brand in color. Pricy but the only thing I could find in the color she wanted that had good reviews.

Amcwheel85 2,059 #16 Posted June 14, 2016 Your 100% right. Love these old machines but when you watch your kids enjoying it... Priceless!
AlwaysLookin80 1,308 #17 Posted June 16, 2016 So all the pink parts are done except the inside of tool box and top of footrests. I'll paint those Saturday after the paint cures. I'm going to tear down the frame and trans and check everything and then paint those parts a tan color. I think I'm going to put a new predator 3hp engine on this one for her. More reliable. The Kohler is going to be repainted and put on my red suburban I restored last fall.
AlwaysLookin80 1,308 #18 Posted June 18, 2016 Put the stickers on and did the lettering. Not to thrilled about the glitter in the paint but it's not for me. Lol

312Hydro 474 #20 Posted June 19, 2016 That's really an awesome project to share with your little girl. By the looks of her toolbox, you started none to soon! Saved her from the "green 'n yellow" ! Very nice work and the memories of building it together will last long after the project is finished! I don't see that color changing as it looks perfect the way it is.
AlwaysLookin80 1,308 #21 Posted June 19, 2016 It's been a great experience. She's going to be 4 and her personality is forming. She calls the garage my "workshop" and asks me everyday if we can go in there and work on her tractor. Hopefully she helps me with the next ones.

That's my 68 f250. Has mild 302. I drive that in the summer. The suburban in the back is the restored one in the first group of pictures. That's the day I picked it up.
