Nathanielperz 150 #1 Posted May 21, 2016 Hey everyone about ready to start painting the 1276!! I was wondering what color best matches the original red. 857 horse 2,581 #2 Posted May 22, 2016 (edited) Nate,,,,any color you choose is ,,of course perfect,, but your asking an undying question that has never found its happy place in these halls. Some Horse men perfer International Red,,,,others have choose Cherry Red,,,,and Regal Red seems to be in the top 2... and you may hear other s as they chime in.,, I saw a ford blue one in here the other day....... White white,,,or linen white works for most on rims.....300-400- 500 come with silver.....But ive seen linnen white on these as well Its your horse.....you be happy with what you have..... howard 857 Horse,,,Stafford,Va Edited May 22, 2016 by 857 horse Come to the Big Show...briing a Mash Sign

new horse 44 #8 Posted May 22, 2016 you don't need alot of compressor to paint a tractor, parts are small and you don't have a large amount to paint. heck I've painted a car with only a 3 horse compressor, (it took all day!)
Nathanielperz 150 #9 Posted May 22, 2016 Oh really? Sounds good! I think i'll go grab a $20 harbor freight sprayer. -Nate
953 nut 56,153 #10 Posted May 22, 2016 If you are going to spray it with a gun you should consider getting some reducer and catalyzed hardener to mix with the paint. It will come out a lot better and last longer. You will also want to have some lacquer thinner on hand to clean the gun. Lots of threads on here about painting, take a few minutes and read up on them.

daveoman1966 3,762 #14 Posted May 22, 2016 I have found KRYLON is a very close match... only available in rattle cans though. CHERRY RED GLOSS. IMHO, it matches up to the older 70s tractors.
Nathanielperz 150 #15 Posted May 22, 2016 Can you get a protective coating that will harden the paint or make it less easy to scratch if you rattle can it? -Nate

You could do a clear coat with hardener on the parts you have already painted. Be sure to read the instructions for both the paint you have already used and the clear to be sure the re-coat time is correct. Lots of products have a short window of opportunity to re-coat or you must hold off for a substantial time.
