Huntemcd 239 #1 Posted May 11, 2016 (edited) Does anyone know why the old 36" decks are so loud. Is it because you can't grease them or what. What would take care of the noise? I also just put a brand new idler pulley on. Edited May 11, 2016 by Huntemcd
elcamino/wheelhorse 9,295 #2 Posted May 11, 2016 My guess is that the bearing in the spindles are going bad or have gone bad.
Huntemcd 239 #3 Posted May 12, 2016 Idk. Deck sat around for a long time. The spindles seem to move decent. I have another deck that is the same thing and it was really loud. But the idler was bad. That deck sat around for awhile too.
elcamino/wheelhorse 9,295 #4 Posted May 12, 2016 One way to check if the bearings are bad is to remove the deck from the tractor and spin the pulleys . You may have to remove the drive belt. The seal bearing spindles did not have a long life in my opinion . I replaced the two or three times between 1991 and 2005. Finally purchase grease able spindles.
