Help! Anybody know what tranny this is?

Recommended Posts

wheelhorse2007

I listed this transmission in the Wheelhorse for sale forum, but was told it was not for a Wheelhorse. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would like it to find a good home by someone that knows what it is and can put it to good use. Thanks.

Agree it's not WH.  Not Bruce Jenner either.

Sorry no help here.

Something with a left hand drive engine.

There just may be a Wheel Horse connection. Maybe a Peerless used in the Elec-Tracs? :confusion-shrug:

I think you are the proud owner of a Peerless (definitely a Peerless) 1200 series transmission.  Page 5 of this manual shows the various pictures of the Peerless transmissions.  If you read on page 3, paragraph (b)...it talks about the 1200 series being either left or right handed for the input shaft, depending on the manufacturer specs.  I would say yours is "left" handed.  The manual also talks about where, on the different transmissions, you might find any numbers.  From what I read, my take is only the 1200 series came as either left or right handed. :)

I have no idea if a left-handed, Peerless, 1200 series transmission was ever used by Wheel Horse.  Maybe @gwest_ca has an idea...or a way to plug in a number to see where the trans was used.

Could be right here. Wheel Horse bought GE in 1974. From what I've found I believe they used the Peerless 2300. :)

WHX??

Whatever it was from it was red & looks mid '60's vintage  so what other tractors were red in that era??  Bet it would lend itself well  for a too cool for school rat rod project, with those  mounts on there like that a guy could hang it under small trailer springs shackled to a frame... with a 12 HP pullied for speed.....round hood.......

Take a look at the "Rear Axle" page for these Toro models that are cousins to the Springfield tractors

https://www.partstree.com/parts/search/models/?searchTerm=55402

There is also a 2nd page for the internals.

Not all of them woodchuck. Wheel Horse made them with the unidrive transmission. :)

I like the way you think! Rat Rod was the first thing I thought about too.
