ztnoo 2,298 #2 Posted May 4, 2016 Well, I'm going to try to go a least one of the days to see what it's all about. I live only 37 miles from Portland, so its even closer to me than Mentone was. Can anyone who has attended before filled in some blanks on what goes on and typically what you see there? Found the specific ad for the May meet: http://www.tristategasenginetractor.com/images/custom/Swap_Sell_Meets2016.pdf
RedRanger 1,468 #3 Posted May 4, 2016 Picture a fair grounds full of garden tractor parts and small engine stuff for sale! Tractors of all kinds and colors. Everything from parts to entire tractors. 4 wheel and 2 wheel! Red, Green, Orange, White all living in peace and harmony. Food to eat too! Good stuff! I spent one full day there last year and was sore from walking. If you're looking for it, it's there. If you're not looking for it, it's there.
ztnoo 2,298 #4 Posted May 4, 2016 (edited) Portland (Jay County Fairgrounds) is probably the best equipped fairgrounds hosting other similar events, I have ever been too. The fairgrounds are very spacious and there are large areas of very mature shade trees which really help the personal comfort level when the weather is very hot. There are numerous fair buildings which can be utilized for displays, sales, and demonstrations. But there are also large open areas can which accommodate those in need of more wide open areas for setup displays for very large vendors and collections. I've been to both the huge Cushman show which is held there annually featuring scooters and motorcycles mid summer, and the late summer Antique Engine and Tractor Show, which has no equal I am aware of. All the major service clubs, i.e. Kiwanis, Rotary, Lions, etc., etc., all have their own dedicated buildings with fully equipped kitchens and refrigeration, staffed by very adequate numbers of experienced volunteers which all serve excellent food with wide ranging menus. The site is like nothing I've ever seen and it is superbly and meticulously cared for, manicured, and maintained. A primo location. If the National WH Show would ever have need to relocate, I can't image a better place to go. http://www.visitjaycounty.com/images/see/parks/fairgroundsmap1.pdf Edited May 14, 2016 by ztnoo

Factory Dog 44 #8 Posted May 17, 2016 Portland was the first and only swap meet I have ever been to and it was a lot of fun! My sweetie and I went two years ago and really enjoyed ourselves, even though it rained some and there was a lot of water standing everywhere. The folks there were very nice and a lot of fun to be around. Of course, Indiana people are just nice folks period. I wanted to go this week, but the boss could not let me off and it wasn't in our budget anyway. I hope to get there next spring! Have fun!!!

ztnoo 2,298 #11 Posted May 19, 2016 I was there today. What a mad house! Saw Lane there and talked with him a couple of different times. Wore my ass out walking the grounds while almost everyone else was riding something. I was a first timer at this event......I guess it showed big time. Finally, the weather was decent here.....suppose to be that way thru Friday. 40% chance of precipitation on Saturday.
