cschannuth 3,817 #7 Posted April 30, 2016 Dad's been gone eight years and and the tractor hadn't been used in almost 10 years. Luckily, he always did a great job of storing his equipment. I rolled it out of his basement this spring, changed the fluids, and put in a new battery and it fired right up.

Terry M-(Moderator) 2,177 #11 Posted April 30, 2016 I thought the black hoods used the sealed beam style lighting, but I'm not sure....maybe someone who knows more about the black hoods will chime in..
Aldon 4,827 #12 Posted April 30, 2016 (edited) Be cautious. The plastic lens piece that covers the lamps is no longer available and this model was unique to a short production period so pretty seldom seen on eBay or elsewhere. LED replacements are likely only option for better brightness. these C161's with fiberglass hoods did not have same light set up as the other blackhood models of the era. cschannuth 3,817 #13 Posted April 30, 2016 I plan to remove the four screws that hold the lens in place and see what it looks like inside. It looks like there's a standard automotive style bulb inside there.
Aldon 4,827 #14 Posted April 30, 2016 they are standard. I seem to recall 1156 but not certain. I bought a set of LED's that replace the automotive bulb. Better brightness from what others have indicated and not over much amperage draw and heat is within acceptable amounts.
Racinbob 11,300 #15 Posted May 4, 2016 That sure looks great. My favorite black hood because of the dash style.
neil 2,410 #16 Posted May 5, 2016 That looks really nice , the square style tractors wasn't my favourite looking version but looking at yours has renewed my desire for them . very nice
cschannuth 3,817 #17 Posted May 15, 2016 I saw the weight hanger/bumper Jeff (WVHillbilly520H) made for the 520 and I thought it would be perfect to protect the fiberglass black hood on my 161 so I contacted him to make me one. He did and it turned out great. It even had the 161 engraved in it. He made it look so nice I don't know if I can hang weights on it.
R. L. Addison 299 #18 Posted January 16, 2017 Very sharp! Looks like it could use plastic dust covers on the front wheels. I use hose clamps to hold them on.

It used to drive me crazy how particular he was with everything. Now I am very thankful and I have to admit it rubbed off on me as well. Now I drive my own kids crazy.
