Sparky-(Admin) 21,337 #1 Posted April 28, 2016 So I bought an Ariens Compact 24 last fall (used) but after this mild winter I knew I should have bought a bigger unit. So now that it's spring it's a great time to score bargains on snow blowers. Found this Ariens Deluxe 30 for sale in Massachusetts by a couple who were moving to California for a great price. It's amazing how small my 24" unit looks next to the new one!! Mike.....
Terry M-(Moderator) 2,175 #2 Posted April 28, 2016 Those look like some Nice machines. I've learned with experience in Minnesota that bigger is better when the Big snow hits. Whats your opinion(if any) of those Newer Briggs engines?

Whats your opinion(if any) of those Newer Briggs engines? They start easier and run quieter than the Tecumseh Snow-Kings......but they don't seem as torquey. They all have a torque and CC rating instead of hp so my 9 foot pounds of torque Briggs on the 24" unit was only 6.3hp. Not enough in my opinion. shallowwatersailor 3,213 #4 Posted April 28, 2016 I think that a 30" bucket is about the right size for a walk behind. Mine is a 24" and I wish that is was a bit wider. And I agree about the Techy having more torque.
elcamino/wheelhorse 9,326 #5 Posted April 28, 2016 Looks like your new unit has a "mini me" as a side kick.
Ken B 3,164 #6 Posted May 5, 2016 Nice Score Mike. I bought a new Ariens Deluxe 28 for use at work. It has the Lifan Torque 12 engine on it. The engine runs good but it is under powered. The old Ariens with the 10 hp Tecky Snow King has way more nut. Happily, I was able to add that one to my snow team at home! Here is a picture of the old one... Its a tank, the deeper the snow the farther it throws it..

Digger 66 3,481 #9 Posted May 7, 2016 It's also a good time to "go through" your old one . My 66 is coming along nicely after the re-power . Except the head of the new engine is right in the middle of where the old chute direction handle was . Time to roll up the shleeeeeves .

I used This This engine which is designed as a direct bolt-in for the older Ariens blowers . The Small Engine Warehouse has a page for repowering old equipment . My blower is a 24" cut .
