Think a 312-H could handle a dual stage?

Recommended Posts

I recently picked up a dual stage last year and used it on my 520H. I love it. This year i was planning to plow with my 520 and put the dual stage on my 312H. Do you guys think the 12hp Kohler could handle the dual stage? Thanks! Dave

hey Dave. good question. In my humble opinion I think it will be a bit weak in power. mostly in the deeper heavier snows. This will be interesting to follow. I myself slways wanted that monster 2 stage.

The limiting factor for plowing is traction and the 312H with the correct tires, chains and weight can be as effective as the 520.

The blower limit will be HP so the 520H is definitely better for blowing.     Why would you want to swap them?

i think wheel horse recommends 14 hp or more, although i think i have heard of guys using them. the 520 with a 2 stage is almost unstoppable.

Too much for a 12, yes it can be used but it will task that motor to its fullest thus putting more wear and tear on the motor. Because it's a hydro you are gonna loose some hp from the get go. In my opinion I would not put it on a 12.

I'm with Ed. Why?

You certainly don't need 20hp to plow snow but it sure is nice to have for the 2 stage

Good comments fellas, throw the plow on the 12, keep the blower on the 520.

About what? A snow cab, here's what I know about a snow cab. I don't have one, and when I get wet and cold I wish I had one, lol.

Any comment?

Sounds like a plan! Just blow with the 520 and plow with the 312.

By the time you put the weight on the back end that you need to balance the weight of the 2-stage hanging off the front,

you are going to be frustrated and unhappy with the perfomance of a 312.

I think you will get a bunch of rear wheel spinning, and not a whole lot of snow throwing.

That thrower really belongs on a 416 -520

Muz 123,

I purchased a 1990 312 H with a 44 in 2 stage mounted on it back in 2012.   I am the second owner.    It worked just OK that first winter .   Then I had a chance to purchase a nice 1994 520H from another Red Square member.   The next winter was much better with the 520.   As you guys know the 520H is a real beast.   I agree a snow cab would be nice.    I run with rear ag tires and weights,  No chains as I have a concrete drive.    Hope this helps.     Herb
