MWR 321 #1 Posted April 26, 2016 The blade to my GT-14 is missing the lever that angles the blade, and the corresponding hand lever that releases the locking pin that holds the blade at an angle. Not to mention the long bar that runs from this lever to the blade, but I'll mention it anyway. I wouldn't mind buying these parts, but if they are not to be found I was hoping someone could give the the dimensions so I could give fabrication them a try. I have a piece of 2 inch wide 3/8" thick flat iron about 37 inches long and that may be long enough to make the lever. And the rod should be easy, except it has 90 degree bends on each end. I don't know exactly the directions they bend. Any help would be appreciated.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,031 #2 Posted April 27, 2016 Back in the day the dozer blades came in 2 packages. The blade and the A-frame kit. The A-frame kit was the same for the long frame tractors and the GT-14. The long frame tractors got a 42" blade. The GT-14 got a 54" blade. So the most common long-frame blade assemblies should have the parts you need I think. The 1/2" rod is 31-1/2" long center to center of the bends. The front bend is up and the rear bend is to the right. You can use a spring pin it the front but use a cotter pin in the rear where it is not protected from accidentally being pulled out. The lever is 5/16" x 1-1/4" flat stock 38" tall. The 1/2" hole for the rod is centered 3/4" from the end and the pivot hole center is 7-1/2" above the center of the rod hole. My lever gets bent over time so the 3/8" x 2" flat stock you have should work well. With the blade straight ahead you should make sure the 31-1/2" to the lever pivot on the A-frame is correct. At that point the lever should be straight up and down. My blade is a 1988 model 06-48BC01 Garry
MWR 321 #3 Posted April 27, 2016 (edited) Thank you for this information. Just what I needed to know. And even more special, I'm glad my blade grew from 48" to 54". But as you may have guessed, I've never actually measured the width of the blade. I had these on my blade, and the 1/2" rod got loose somehow and got wrapped around the rear axle. Made a nice round loop in it. And it the process it damaged the lever. And bent the metal on the blade arms that the lever bolts to. I've been adjusting the blade angle manually. Being tough helps overcome problems, but sometimes you got to fix the problem. Edited April 27, 2016 by MWR
elcamino/wheelhorse 9,295 #4 Posted April 27, 2016 MWR , Did you take a wild ride down that hillside and mess your blade up ? Sounds like you d_ _ _ near destroyed the blade and possibly the tractor. It takes a lot of force to bend a 1/2 inch rod.
MWR 321 #5 Posted April 27, 2016 Nah, the rod got bent about 20 years ago. It just came loose while I was driving around and somehow, miraculously got wrapped around the axle. I figured the pin fell out, allowing the rod to fall out, then the rod caught on the tire chain and got bent all outta shape. But I could be wrong.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,031 #6 Posted April 28, 2016 Back in the day the blades came in 2 packages. The blade and the A-frame. This way they could mix and match to fit the different models. Garry
