Thinking its time for a carb rebuild

Got home from work tonight and the wife and I decided we would go for a ride...so she hopped on her Commando and I hopped on the 1277 and away we went. We just pulled out onto the road and I challenged her to a friendly bet on a race (of which I pulled away from her pretty easily lol) when all of a sudden mine started cutting out and finally just died. Tried for a good fifteen minutes to get it started with no luck...acted like it was not getting any fuel so my first thought was fuel pump quit. Had Katy pull me back to the house and removed the fuel line...plenty of fuel...so put it back on and it finally started but ran rough. Guess I'll order a kit for it tomorrow and see if that helps. On the bright side I did get pictures of all three of them together and a better one of Katy with her Commando, which of course she had to rub it in to me about pulling me home

I experienced the EXACT same symptoms with my Bronco 14 today...it has a 14hp Kohler engine.  Here is what I found and you will probably find the same issue....its from the ethanol gas we use today.  There are little bits of jelled gas in the carb bowl and in the jets too.  You'll have to pull the carb and clean it thoroughly as I did.

I'll pull the bowl off and check it out in the morning but I never run anything but 100% gas in any of my equipment

Professor1990    When I buy fuel line I always ask for the best that they have it is usually around $4.00 a foot. This helps out a lot. It does not break down like the cheap stuff. Good luck with the carb.  If you have the original pluming? look and see if you can pick up some new sleeves for the carb the # is 220547 they break down after awhile. there are 2 for the tubing.

You will never live that down! I like the back rest on the Commando, not original, but a keeper for comfort.

Does anyone know how much difference there is in gas line materials?  I think I pay about $2.50/ft for "standard" gas line-the black stuff.  It is not the "high pressure" material you need for fuel injected cars where the pump is in the tank.  I stay away from the clear gas line material.

I don't know much about the difference in them anytime I need any fuel line I just stop my a buddy shop and he gives me some off the rolls he buys in bulk...just seems to be standard black fuel line but I've never had any trouble with it

Would be nice if they made gasoline out of plain gas again.

It is becoming increasing obvious that the stuff that comes out of the pumps today is just plain hazardous for small engines. That's why these "true fuel" no ethanol solutions are becoming more popular. I'd even recommend it if it weren't the equivalent of over $20 a gallon in the big box stores. 

I'd ABSOLUTELY pay more for gas WITHOUT ethanol in it, but that is ridiculous.

We have one small station in our town that still sells 100% gas...it's about 35 cents a gallon higher but well worth it I buy all my fuel there for everything (tractors, both pickups, bucket truck, etc.) This past summer I was hauling hay with my 66 F350 and that station was out of gas...bought 10% ethanol at the grocery store and could almost immediately tell a difference in power and fuel economy both. And then replaced my fuel pump about two weeks later. So I never buy ethanol blends unless I am just absolutely forced to

I buy 25 foot rolls of 1/4 inch gas line at Advance Auto.So far.....so good.Ya do gas line on 4 or 5 tractors,ya go through 25 feet in no time.

Pulled the carb off last night...surprisingly wasn't that dirty but went ahead and cleaned it up real good anyway...put it back on and had same issue as before...checked the gap on my points and it was way off...set the gap back to .020" and she started and run better than before...still a bit rough but we'll get there lol
