Navig8r 132 #1 Posted April 25, 2016 Anyone else ever do this? I had tilled some rocky stuff the year before last, but discovered this at the end of last season when getting ready to till in some compost.
doc724 925 #2 Posted April 25, 2016 Looks like a cold weld. No metal tearing.
DougC 2,641 #3 Posted April 25, 2016 It's amazing to me what these old tillers will still do after years of hard use. Mine is a 1976 model I bought in a package deal with snow thrower, 520H tractor and 48inch mower deck. The tines are worn badly from 40 years of use and probably abuse from many former owners. Works better than my Troy Built Pony rear tine walk behind and gets the job done in about an hour, compared to four hours with the Troy Built.
cleat 5,809 #4 Posted April 25, 2016 That seems to be the biggest issue with Wheel Horse in general. They had terrible welders. I have had to repair lots of poor welds on Wheel Horse tractors and implements.
Lost Pup 172 #5 Posted April 25, 2016 I used two tillers parts to piece together one good one. The tines on one were worn completely past the curved section. Who knows the amount of hours of use to wear them to that point ? Weld it up and keep going.
c-series don 8,662 #6 Posted April 26, 2016 I'm on my 2nd set of tines. I bought my 7-1251 36" tiller (which I believe is a 1974) in 1984 and used to rototill many gardens around town. It does take many hours of work but eventually it does not till efficiently. I do remember when I bought the 2nd set thinking holy you know what these things are expensive!! This was before the Internet (at least for me) and I remember thinking I probably could have bought a good used tiller for what I paid for the tines. I wonder if they are still available ? Not that I need them, thank goodness!
AMC RULES 37,127 #7 Posted April 26, 2016 Hard to believe this NY glacial till... has left you any tines at all.

My garden is actually in pretty good soil, except for some clay..... I probably weakened this the season before when I was tiling an area with some rough fill..... Shale and softball size rocks!
