She should be thanking you.

That 520 will be happier now.

I have never seen fluid that bad in one before.

Honestly haven't seen fluid that bad in much of anything, on the dip stick it was brown ,that was just the filter and it was "loose" when I took it off, I'll drain it tomorrow gonna get a NAPA filter or 2 and change a couple times before winter after that I'm gonna get at the butchered wire harness, no tach or voltage gauge working then new belts and blades and start mowing...hopefully,Jeff.

I have a 91 520h with 748 on a working hour meter. It has  never seen a day under cover and the fluids in it don't look like that mess. How in the world  with 236 on the clock do you get a machine that nasty? Man some people. From your post that machine is lucky to find someone like you to give it the attention it deserves. From here it looks like you will be busy.Luck,JAinVA

Yep my '97 Anniversary 520 (owned since new) has 755 hrs but it gets changed by the book the oil never looked like that ( and I thought the hydro didn't either till last summer when I pulled the fenders and pressure washed) those plastic dipstick/filler tubes seep when running hilly terrain and just blowing the chaffe out doesn't get it the oil off the hydro fins ,so now that'll be part of my yearly maintenance program in the fall (that Dxi wasn't/isn't any better owned by the same person before being traded in)...they'll be taken care of better from here on out as well as worked too,Jeff.

So how many gallons of Purple Power did it take to get cleaned up? I had a C145 that was nasty like that. Hydro was shot and I cleaned it all out just to be able to replace it. Seems like I wore out the pressure washer doing it.

Actually it run and drove like it was surprisingly, and I scraped most of it off before the purple power wipe down so not a whole lot of that yet but it's hasn't made it outside for it's big boy bath either ,and yes updates will be coming,Jeff.

Here's why I can't do the big boy bath and blow it off in the garage...can't get anything on the Road King...:angry-nono:...it's a miracle I can put those filthy :wh:'s in there, but a stable(18'x21' enclosed carport) for my herd is forthcoming this summer/fall right behind our house...but for now that's where my tool box is parked till then...Jeff.

Well this morning I got the new filter and oil in the hydro and adjusted the linkage to "neutral" , put a new drive belt on, new fuel tank bushing and shutoff valve and a new voltage regulator/rectifier and now the tach works still no charging gauge(look into the butchered wiring harness) so all in all a very productive couple hours,Jeff.   Last pic the contaminated hydro oil.

That Hydro oil looks better than your earlier pic.

How does that belt fit ? It seems good.

B80 5L830.

Likely cheaper than a Toro belt.

Cleat , that belt fits as good if not better than the TORO one and yes cheaper I have used these on dad's older CUB Cadets with success, from eBay I use the TORO part # to find them or by size from the UPE group, the hydro oil looks like a mud milkshake I guess the pic isn't showing that but the hydro doesn't whine now, Jeff.

Found a set of old CUB 12" cast iron front wheel weights and cleaned them up for paint to use on this 520 not sure on how much they weigh but guess 40# each ,I'm gonna mount them inside over the axle hub so I can still use the wheel covers,Jeff.

Did a little cleaning on the top of the engine and new air filter today,(whoops forgot to take after pics will add those later got side tracked) also my father-in-law said I couldn't get a wrench on a part of my Dxi so I made one that would hardened and tempered and it fits and works just fine, don't tell a hillbilly he can't do that :angry-nono:,Jeff

Ok I need a little help with the charging system/volt meter on this horse, the wiring is somewhat butchered and I'll repair that but here's the deal the regulator/rectifier was bad the tach and volt meter didn't work so I replaced it and the tach now works but the volt meter still doesn't ,I have my original 520 owners manual and downloaded/printed the (91-97) 520 demystification guide but the wiring diagrams don't show the same things ???, this 520 is a 95 by serial# and my anniversary a 97, also what is the alternator that is shown in the wiring diagrams on these engines? Thanks Jeff.

Great work with that wrench. I had to do something similar yesterday to take apart the tranny of a New Holland TN65. I didn't have a 55mm crowfoot wrench, and I don't know where you would buy one, but I've got one now. Its not quite as finished as yours, but the tranny is apart, and parts are ordered. Have you got that Dxi pumping fuel yet? I do have a Briggs/diahatsu parts motor that came off a scagg z-turn. It was a turbo motor, so the pump would be set a bit higher than yours, but those Bosch style pumps are "adjustable".

Today I took the horse outside for a bath and got a lot of the crud out and off it, also flipped the right tie rod around and greased all the zerks and lubed the brake, shifter, lift lever, and rock shaft pivots ect, tried buffing the paint but it's too far faded from sitting outside too long and got my wheel weights painted Dupicolor wheel silver, and BTW the hour meter works put 2/10s on it today riding around next fix the wiring and get a stator/alternator to hopefully fix the noncharging/non-working volt meter,Jeff.

As from the above pic the tan wire from the switch is cut and jumped by a brown wire to the light blue wire on the starter solenoid, I need to figure out that issue I think it lies in the relay took all 3 off today several pins corroded and dust/chaffe piled in behind and around the relays but I did get a new set of tail lights (from Advance Auto $3.99 ea...but later found at Wal-Mart $2.89 ea) and installed them and bolted the fender pan/seat back on this morning,Jeff.

Ok got into the wiring replaced all the relays and ignition switch and replaced the Molex connector with bullet connectors and dielectric greased all connections also the fuse box found out the volt gauge was bad replaced with a Bosch unit from Advance Auto $20 compared to $80 from TORO( it shows close to multimeter readings and that's good enough for me) just about ready to get the deck cleaned and ready to mow, but for the life of me I can't figure out why I need that jumper wire from tan wire on switch to the light blue wire on solenoid (unless it's the missing TORO seat/seat switch which is jumpered also) but it won't start without it, Jeff.

Well I finally figured out why the solenoid was jumpered from the tan wire on ignition switch the neutral safety switch is good but missing the tang to make it work top pic is the neutral/clutch w/o tang and PTO still in bracket and tang second pic the new 1 with tang ordered on it's way...not technically an electrical issue as much as a mechanical problem someone else overlooked and butchered the wiring for a simpler fix ,Jeff.
