snow plow pivot bar ?

I purchased a 42" snow plow for my 312-8. It needs a lot of work, but will give me something to do. One question, the lower rod that attaches the frame to the plow is rusted away and broke. I think they call it the lower pivot bar.  Does anyone know the size of this? Is it 1/4 inch? Can I use any steel bar that will go through the holes and drill small holes in the ends for cotter pins? Any suggestions are welcome. If a picture would help, l can try to upload one. I am sure I'll have more ?'s as I get into this. Thanks.

I recommend that you go to the manuals section, look up your plow model number, download the manual and then you can have an accurate description.  Most of these snow/dozer blades were xx-42BC01.  Many of the parts are available thru Toro and other suppliers and it may be less costly to just buy the part than fabricate it.  Your choice of course

I think the rod is a 3/8" rod..but I am not close to mine right now to check.

1/2" diameter. Without looking, the rod has a bend on each end, holes for 1/8" hair pin cotter pins.

If you start long for each bend, you could heat the rod, bend and cut as required.

 

Length is approx. 36-1/2" overall (after bends).

Each end has approx. 1-1/2" x 90 degree bend (outside) length.

 

Have fun. Any steel rod'll work.

You can use a spring pin at the front but use a cotter pin at the rear. 

I accidentally lost a rear spring pin and then backed up. The pin got hooked on something and pulled out. The rod fell out of the lever and dropped to the ground. It went straight down about 20" before stopping me in my tracks. Ended up with an L bend in the center of the rod.
