Bow_Extreme 544 #26 Posted April 12, 2016 Funny!! I've seen a lot of strange things done to Wheel Horse's but that's a first.
fireman 1,021 #27 Posted April 19, 2016 Stopped by SteveBo's house with the tractor to compare it's wiring with his 1990 520-8 to see if anything was wrong. Low and behold besides the piece of power cord everything else was correct. Checked the coil and was getting no power to the + side. Added a jumper from the positive battery to the positive coil and she fired right and actually ran and drove fine. Now I have to check out all the safety switches and see if one is stuck or if the ignition switch is faulty. At least I know that it does run and drives!
fireman 1,021 #28 Posted April 19, 2016 Forgot to mention that I found a used hood from a 518 on CL 15 minutes from my house. It's the same with the exception of the louvers on the top. It only had a couple minor dents which came right out. Only $30 and it saved me hours repairing the banged up one.
Aldon 4,826 #29 Posted April 19, 2016 (edited) Glad you got her straightened out! Literally and figuratively Edited April 19, 2016 by Aldon
cleat 5,809 #30 Posted April 19, 2016 My 520HC has the non louvered hood and I actually prefer it. Simpler to clean. Heat blows out the side anyways so no real cooling difference.
mabsoon 60 #31 Posted April 22, 2016 This is not helping me turn over the mower I am going to pick up. I mean so not helping!!! Hmmm, how hard could it be to bring this C-160 back to life!!! Ok, so not easy, but tempted to try.

Hmmm, how hard could it be to bring this C-160 back to life!!! Ok, so not easy, but tempted to try. Well that depends on how much effort, skill and money you want to through at it. The first picture is of my C-160 when I first got it. The second one is of it 6 months and $1200 later. It is a full body/frame off restoration. Every steering part from the front steering spindles up to the steering wheel was replaced with NOS parts. The transmission was completely rebuilt with all new bearings and seals. I even have an NOS hood that I have yet to put on it. Seems like a lot of money but think about what a new crappy Craftsman goes for. At $1200 it's a bargain and will last forever.
mabsoon 60 #33 Posted April 22, 2016 Yeah, I am looking more in the "put a new piston in it and get it running", that is the listed issue with it. I figure a running WH is worth more than a non-running one. I think this one looks great just like it is, though I do love the bright red cleaned up, rehabbed one
fireman 1,021 #34 Posted April 22, 2016 (edited) Well here is the 520 with the used hood I bought for it and all degreased. I haven't fully serviced it yet but at least it's now running and driving. Still don't what the plan is for it. It's actually starting to grow on me although I have no room to keep it stored indoors. I know wether I sell it or not it's going to get the hood and seat pan painted and new decals. I may paint few other of the panels too. A couple of the steering tie-rod ends need replacement and I'm going to replace the fuel lines as I'm sure they're starting to de-laminate inside.
