Ed Kennell 39,641 #27 Posted March 24, 2016 You are the Master Mechanic Cleat. Do you think it may have had larger wheels on the rear originally ?
cleat 6,802 #28 Posted March 24, 2016 (edited) No; I raised the front and now need to raise the rear. This was done to gain ground clearance in the front. Edited March 24, 2016 by cleat

My buddies say I am crazy for building up this 4 wheeled wagon but I liked them on the Farm and we use them all the time here at work to move piping etc around. Looking forward to using the wagon this summer.
ACman 7,629 #30 Posted March 25, 2016 Love this build , been wanting midsize wagon for a while . One of my jobs as a kid was mowing the grass , between the farm , and the AC dealership . When I mowed I had to mow around everything and I mean everything . I think we had the best manicured farm around . All out buildings , barns ,silos ,bins and if it moved you moved it to mow . Now at the dealer ship our show lot was a large triangle grass lot . My saving grace was a HMI skid steer with a hitch for the front . I could go up to a wagon ,scoop up the tongue put the pin in . ( without getting out of the seat ) With that little machine I could push any piece of equipment backwards wherever it needed to go . I never did mastered backing up a 4 wheel wagon with a tractor .
cleat 6,802 #31 Posted March 25, 2016 Rear wheels have just been bead blasted and painted. Tires have been cleaned up and I have new tubes. Once the paint cures for a few days I will assemble.
TDF5G 2,069 #32 Posted March 28, 2016 (edited) That's a great way to paint wheels, getting the front, back and inside all at once! Gonna have to remember that! Edited March 28, 2016 by TDF5G
MWR 321 #33 Posted March 28, 2016 Cleat, your wagon project is most impressive. And on another note, the best advice I've heard on backing a wagon is to "Cut it both ways and come straight back!"
cleat 6,802 #34 Posted April 3, 2016 Finally got the steering pivot out of the frame. Pin was seized into place with nothing else holding it and it stuck out the bottom. Freed up pin, drilled hole for a cotter key to hold it up. Cut it to length then drilled and tapped a 3/8 hole in the bottom for a puller if ever needed. Pivot itself will go into work for bead blasting and paint.

cleat 6,802 #36 Posted April 3, 2016 (edited) Ha Ha. Not too fast. Makes it easy to move around for mowing grass. That poor thing is going to fall apart soon it is so rotten. Makes a good bench for painting and working on, no good for eating at any more. We have a nice table and chairs on the new deck now for that. Toyed with the idea of building one but haven't gotten inspired enough to do it. http://www.redneckrepairs.com/video/drivable-picnic-table-that-can-do-wheelies/

cleat 6,802 #40 Posted April 6, 2016 Steering pivot and pivot pin have been cleaned up and painted. Pin just has the little bit that will protrude painted, the rest will be heavily greased on assembly.
cleat 6,802 #41 Posted April 16, 2016 Rear axle has had plates welded in to raise it by 3". Frame was then sanded and fully primed. Bottom has 2 coats of red paint. A receiver hitch was welded onto the rear of the frame for either hooking up a trailer like a train or for pushing while someone steers the front.

AMC RULES 37,144 #48 Posted April 17, 2016 (edited) Kinda thinking... some strategically placed diamond tread aluminum might look pretty cool too Cleat. When all polished up, would really set off that beautiful red. Edited April 17, 2016 by AMC RULES
