Price for 1979 C141 8 speed

Recommended Posts

Looking for some feedback on my tractor.  After many years of service it is time for me to move to a larger machine so I will put my tractor up for sale in a few weeks and I'm looking for an idea on how much to ask for it when I put it on Craigslist or whatever.

It is a 1979 Wheel Horse C-141 with a 42" side discharge deck.  Originally purchased by my parents so I have some of the original paperwork.  It has the Kohler engine and 8 speed transmission.  Currently the rings are shot and it uses a quart of oil for every 3 gallons of gas.  Everything else works fine.

any thoughts on what a fair price is for me to ask?

its a hard thing to price,i don't mean to insult you but a tractor that burns that much oil needs a complete rebuild, not just rings as we know the rod will soon be next to go,shes in good shape but where I live you could get 150 for the deck and probally the same for the tractor, but you need to find the right buyer, someone willing to put the work into her,i will be honest,i would not pay that much for a tractor that needs rebuilt, but that's me,i have several and don't need to purchase a machine that needs work, but there are lots of people who need parts or have the money and time to bring her back to working order, remeber this is my opinion only and I'm trying not to sound negative, just being realistick

I think you should keep it as a back up or for pulling a yard cart and lawn sweeper around having 2 horses really comes in handy. I have a horse for about every attachment

Buy another and stash away in the corner

These horses don't eat anything.

$300 sounds 'bout right. Some don't have room for more than one Horse.

Good luck with your hunt for a newer Stallion and sale of your older Horse.

Thanks for the input guys -- and it will be hard to let the machine go since it's been in the family for 37 years -- Pete I will send you a note as I would rather see it go to someone who has some plans for it.

thanks

Considering that she's a fogger, I think Pete's offer is more than fair.  The cost to rebuild the Kohler is more than the value of the tractor.

Unfortunately it's worth more in parts than a whole right now and some buyers would do just that.
