limited12 360 #1 Posted March 13, 2016 Going tomorrow to look at a 312-8 with 421 hours with a 37" deck. Been looking for a 300 series for a while. Owner (second) thinks it is around a 95 to 97 model, he can not remember. this unit looks very clean in the pics. My question is anything i need to look for or any problems these may have had. If i pick it up i will post pics thanks

can whlvr 993 #4 Posted March 13, 2016 (edited) with only that many hours there shouldn't be too much if it looks well taken care of,look at the oil in tranny,it might be a slight bit milky but not much, watch for smoke out of the engine when running, some at start up is normal, maybe look at air filter, will give you an idea of how strick his maintenance was, look for grease at all the grease zerks, check the manual lift although I woulnt think it would be worn yet,but you never know, this is a pic of a hood from a 312-h I bought, the whole tractor looked like this, only 400 hours,so you never know Edited March 13, 2016 by can whlvr
slammer302 2,155 #5 Posted March 13, 2016 312-8 is a solid machine not much to go wrong make sure the wiring isn't all hacked up even if it is it can be fixed but can be a headache. I've had a 314-8 with wiring problems once fixed it was great sold it a guy down the road far as I know he is still using it.

I think this will make a great addition.

elcamino/wheelhorse 9,294 #10 Posted March 14, 2016 Man you really did good. I keep looking but always a date late or it is a 5 hour round trip or can't get the seller to reply by phone or email. What year is it? Is the PO hiding any more around his house?
can whlvr 993 #11 Posted March 14, 2016 looks really nice, usually when a person treats the machine that good you know you have a good machine,i would change the tranny fluid, like I stated its very usual for it to be a but milky, thats condensation,it might go away when it warms up and you give her a good run,but for 2 quarts of 80-90 oil I would change it

elcamino/wheelhorse 9,294 #13 Posted March 14, 2016 Ok Howard , Tommy got one , you are probably setting on a barn full of horses and pieces and parts. Here I am in Richmond checking every where I can think of and I got zip. Going to check on one tomorrow if I can connect with seller. Connecting with sellers has gotten me a big fat zero so far. Tankman 3,518 #14 Posted March 14, 2016 Spend a little extra for the gear oil. Use Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube. UPS only uses Mobil 1, their maintenance history proved long lasting gear boxes. UPS's data base is second to none, lots of recorded history on one of the worlds largest fleets.
