buell99 1 #1 Posted February 28, 2016 Well, all the new trans oil leaked out near the rear tire. Pulled the outer seal (didn't look bad) and I can see another seal. I'm guessing its the inner seal? Also means i have to pull the trans and split it to replace the inner seal I take it? I presume the inner seal holds fluid in and outer seal keeps dust from getting in. Any places of recommendation to find new seals? Also a shop manual?

pfrederi 17,912 #3 Posted February 28, 2016 (edited) Somebody doubled up the seals at some point as there was only one originally. Probably had a leak and just drove in a new one. I would try a new seal before I pulled and split the tranny. Is ther any up/down or front to rear play in your axle? A small amount of in and out is ok. buell99 1 #4 Posted February 28, 2016 There is a small area between the seals...like a pocket/chamber. So try replacing the seal i took off before dropping trans? Only real Play in the shaft is the normal in/out
pfrederi 17,912 #5 Posted February 28, 2016 I would put a fair amount of grease on the new seal before installation and make sure there were no rough spots on the axle.
