Xjchief 128 #1 Posted February 27, 2016 Bought this the other day and been workin on it here's the progress. Put a k181 on it because the original engine is impossible to find so this will do.homemade clutch linkage jus have to weld a little to connect it to the pedal. Next is wiring and dash panel on its way. Front wheel bearings and different rubber on the back. When I got it nothing moved steering etc but a little grease and pb blaster and all is good.the last missing piece to get it driving is a belt guard anyone have one?

slammer302 2,155 #4 Posted February 28, 2016 I'm still trying to figure out if those are ags or paddle tires.lol
Xjchief 128 #5 Posted February 28, 2016 Lol the tires are Bridgestone farm service 6-12. There is like 1/4" of room to spare under the fender.
AlwaysLookin80 1,308 #6 Posted February 28, 2016 Nice tractor. I love the ag's and patina. Looking for a 701 myself
kasey54 305 #7 Posted March 1, 2016 Yours is looking great! I have one with a Tecumseh snow blower engine on it, and a home made guide that allows it to shift reasonable well. I lack a left foot rest, belt guard , and the SG double wide belt guard . Can't believe it but I scored a double groove starter generator this week end on a tractor that didn't use it, (1057) And in a box of extra parts was the double groove motor pulley as well.(with a commando 8). I also was given what I believe to be an 8 hp kohler with broken connecting rod from the same gentleman .No cowling so I'm not sure what it is, but I'm sure wondering if it might be the original 701 motor. I have been told the difference is, the 701 had no decompression feature in it. I know a guy who can tell me once I get it apart. Fingers crossed , I suppose I cant hope for even more luck! I have to say that belt guard on yours sure looks nice!
Xjchief 128 #8 Posted March 2, 2016 Thanks I couldn't find the original k161 7hp"I think it is" so I had a k181 8hp and just put it on there. That belt guard and pulley was a great score for you. Hopefully that motor is the original because then you will be all set. Does yours have the original plastic dash? Parts for this model are nearly impossible to find
can whlvr 993 #9 Posted March 2, 2016 I like it,looks beefier with ags and 8hp
Xjchief 128 #10 Posted March 5, 2016 Pics soon to follow but it's alive!!! I'm having trouble finding info on axle seals and drive pulley seal for the transmission. What are the napa #'s I need ?
slammer302 2,155 #11 Posted March 5, 2016 I believe the axle seal is a skf 9815 Input seal skf 7410
dells68 7,498 #12 Posted March 5, 2016 Great looking tractor! I honestly kind of like the ags too. The only thing I see that bothers me is the footrests, man switch those things around. I feel pigeon-toed just looking at them!!
Lane Ranger 11,023 #13 Posted March 5, 2016 (edited) Xjchief: You are going to really like that Wheel Horse 701. They are a very nice and early Wheel Horse tractor. Here are some photos of mine with some different garden attachments. Edited March 5, 2016 by Lane Ranger
