Aldon 4,828 #1 Posted February 19, 2016 Too much time on my hands what with winter temps keeping me indoors more than I like. So I get to thinking about finishing my resto-mod in spring. Another thread on the forum got me focused on which muffler to install and how to mount it. My GT14 has the electrical; PTO. My idea is to install the style muffler which was on the Kohler 416 series. See pic. So it should mount parallel and just below the hoods bottom edge with some tweaking. Heat impacting the top of the PTO where wires connect to it may be an issue. Will not know for certain until I have the muffler and engine installed but it is a definite possibility. Has anyone used the heat shields that are used in automotive applications to protect spark plug wires for instance? Any experience out there or suggestions for mitigating the issue of wires breaking down due to heat?
doc724 925 #2 Posted February 19, 2016 Easiest fix is to use teflon insulated wires and then sleeve them with glass braids (this is what it is called, but it looks like a hollow tube made with braided strands of high temp insulation like Nomex. In the oldendays, asbestos was used)
