C120 Mower deck repair

I am working on a mower deck from a 74 C120 that has been patched by a previous owner ( not pretty

for sure) but functional, however the baffle around the blades is rotted away, I can probably make it but 

wonder the effect of it missing.??

the baffle helps create a vacuum,which pulls the grass up so it can be cut clean,it also creates a tunnel so the clippings can be blown out,ive had to make a few or these,i found a heavy gauge steel drum and bent and cut it to work good,didnt have acess to a large roller and brake so this worked fine,it is pretty important and the deck works much better with it
