MWR 321 #1 Posted February 8, 2016 Here's some pictures of the innards of my GT-14. This tragic turn of events began with a flat tire on the back of my tractor. I began the process of removing the rear tire by removing the lug bolts. Then the wheel was stuck to the hub. Genius that I am, I smacked it with a sledge hammer. Two fold tragedy. Not only did the wheel not break loose, but that axle traveled inward, striking the other axle and knocking the retaining snap ring off that axle and onto the other axle. Even more tragic I knew not to do this, I had learned this about 20 years ago when I did the same thing. But over time I forgot that I knew that. I'll probably remember it the next time. It was a good thing that the snap ring did not get loose in all those gears. And I should have it back together sometime this week. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
WHX?? 49,265 #2 Posted February 8, 2016 Thanks for the "don't do something stupid reminder". I usually do stupid "I knew not to to do that" stuff like that at least once a year. If its been more than a year I will do it on purpose just to get it out of the way! Just put a cluster gears in upside down in a 3 piece 3 speed just to give my self some practice in taking them back apart.... BTW, we have been having a discussion about which way those pinions (with the bevel on one end should be facing). Yours appear to be facing each other. Has anyone ever been in this tranny before, that you know of?? Thanks Nice pictures. The gears have worked fine like that since then. I will probably leave them like that. And I used a big wood splitting maul for extra emphasis when I hit the wheel. When I quit hammering due to no progress, I got on the tractor to drive it home. It just sat there. I had left the lug bolts out and the hub was spinning inside the wheel. The wheel came off rather easily after that. That may be my tactic if I have another stuck wheel. 2 minutes ago, AMC RULES said: Probably time for some new snap rings.
