Newbie with some 520 questions.

Besides the gold lettering , gold badge in front and the gray plastic hub cap which I don't have what else was special about Anniversary 520 H? What spark plugs do these P220Gs like the best?  One other question for now, I'm sure I will have more... Is straight 30w engine oil the best for these? I will only be using her in the summer. The Hydro oil looks clean but I am going to change it and I will put 10w30 in it. Here is a few more pictures.

Fury Kid got a great Stallion! Looks to be in great condition too. Have fun with that machine!

 

I use 30W crankcase oil in the Onan year round. Dead of winter, the Horse is resting in the barn.

Nice!  That is in great condition.

I use Champion RS17YX plugs, .025 gap

Mobil or O'Reilly synthetic 10W30 oil

Wix 51762 (NAPA 1762) oil filter

Amsoil synthetic 10W30 in the hydro

TORO 108335 hydro filter, though Wix 51410 (NAPA 1410) should match

I run in very cold weather in the winter.  

straight 30W should be fine for those of you in the sunny tropics

Beautiful 520H furykid. :handgestures-thumbupright:  In Iowa I use 10w30 in the hydro year round. The engine gets 30w in the summer and 10w30 for winter new filters of course at every oil change and grease every zerk at least once a month during mowing season

1996 50th anniversary 520's  have the cosmetic badge changes that you mention, but no other changes that I can think of.

There are a few subtle changes between the '93 and '94 (seat mounts, decals)

There was also a carb change in the mid 90's to the crappy California emission carb.

It is a pain to clean and rebuild, and if you get the chance, I would swap it for the older, adjustable version.

I vent the belt guard over the rear cylinder on all my machnes,

and replace the Phillips head screws on the dash and transmission covers with button head bolts before they strip.

Beautiful tractor! I agree with hubcap decision as I like the chrome too. I think I'd feel better once I put an extra hour on that meter though!:D That's a really nice machine:handgestures-thumbupright::handgestures-thumbupright:

I run 30W in all my older small engines year round but I do have a heated garage.

 

The 16HP Kohler in my old Ford LGT165 I once put in 10W30 and it smoked, changed back to 30W and all was well again.

 

I have never tried multigrade oil in the Onan's.

I plan on doing that tomorrow just to get off that number....

At 666 hours do you guys think that their is a need to decarbon the heads yet?

I have to admit that I have not kept up with this schedule personally, shame on me.

Decarbonization of the heads and valve adjsutment is recommended at 500 hours.

Probably a good idea on a tractor where you don't have any idea of past care. (though it sure LOOKS good)

Sounds like the thing to do, I can clean everything while it's apart and adjust the valves. That way I can do it all at once and I will know it's been done. I will get the gaskets ordered and go to work on her.

I have done this to all 3 of my 520's and also the 416 with the Onan engine.

I like what you did to the belt guard. I was thinking either holes or slots. Is Boomer the one to go to for gasket kit to do the heads? Matts hydro pedal sure looks good on there also.
