79360 snowthrower crank support help

Recommended Posts

diesel horse

Recently I picked up a 79360 (1995) snowthrower in near mint condition. Some parts were missing. Which I was aware of before purchasing the unit.

The LIFT FLAG, which I fabbed yesterday and is ready for paint.

I also searched for some dimensions for the CRANK SUPPORT  and CRANK HANDLE  which are the only two parts left that I am missing, but couldn't find any info.

I would like to fab these two parts, any help would be appreciated .

Thanks Rick.

I'll try to remember to get some better pictures later - for now, all I have is this:

:WRS:

you could also use a 12v electric window motor to power the chute rotation. Controlling the chute tip with a small actuator is nice too.

Thanks wallfish.

I was just looking at a surplus center catalog at those actuators.

Hmmm, very probable in the near future.

Sorekiwi, that's exactly what I'm needing. The crank support looks to be .750" steel tube. And the  crank rod is .375" round stock.

I'm heading to the local steel supplier tomorrow morning to get the steel.

I should be able to make these parts.

The crank rod support is NLA

The rod chute control is $85. YIKES

Thank you for your time taking the pictures.

Sorry forgot to measure the diameters - 3/4 and 3/8 sounds about right.

The support is the same size as the holes in your attach-a-matic.   The "V" shaped thingy and the sleeves are the same as what is on a mower deck.

You realize that the crank rod has a universal joint on the bottom?  I didnt get a picture of that, it is still attached to my blower.

Sorekiwi, yes those measurements were taken from my mower deck. Fortunately the small universal is attached to the snow thrower and that's how I got that measurement.

Crazy how much that little well made universal costs. Lol  Glad mine was there.

A piece of 3/8" hydraulic hose with the wire braid makes a good U-joint replacement if you have room. Need to make splines on the rods with a cold chisel so the hose will grip it. I use 2 gear hose clamps on each end and it works well. Leave about 2-1/2" between the rods so the hose has room to flex.
