formariz 11,987 #1 Posted December 27, 2015 Well, I haven’t been here often and for a while now. Life has just been not too kind to us lately. About three years ago my wife was diagnosed with the early onset of Parkinson’s and unfortunately this year it has taken a major leap for the worst. The typical early symptoms have now developed to major disabilities which is not only hard to understand and deal with but extremely heartbreaking to watch. To see a vibrant career and family woman, sharp, witty, and totally independent made a total prisoner of this disease at 57 is a terrible thing. Perhaps what makes it worse for her is the fact that she was so independent and active. She is not dealing well with this but then how could anyone do. It’s a constant struggle to try to help her with ordinary things in life that we all take for granted such as cutting a the food on your plate and even being able to hold a phone in your hand to see a photo of your grandchildren. Not that the helping is a struggle for me, but rather the struggle is to do it in a manner that I can still allow her to keep a sense of dignity and purpose in life, which is in a very fragile state at this point. It’s hard but I have come to the conclusion that it is not our place to ask why, but rather to deal with what is given to us the best we can, and enjoy every single minute of our lives, specially our family and friends while it is possible to do so, and not to worry or waste time with the so many meaningless things we all seem to be preoccupied with in today’s world.

953 nut 54,996 #17 Posted December 28, 2015 Lord, please continue to be with all care givers and bring extended family members and community support groups to their aid. Please be with the people who's lives have been turned upside down by illness and help them to be grateful for what they have and bring them comfort. Many of us have been care givers and and know how frustrating it can be to do all that you can, knowing it will never be enough. I will continue to pray for you.
formariz 11,987 #18 Posted January 3, 2016 Thank you everyone for your support , encouragement and prayers . We never know what life is going to bring us tomorrow. Richard pretty much describes my feelings about this in a very simple sentence "Many of us have been care givers and and know how frustrating it can be to do all that you can, knowing it will never be enough".

Never give up hope Cas, miracles can happen. It will be 11 years tomorrow since my young wife sustained a brain injury in a car accident. Sometimes I feel that nothing I can do will make things better. And then a smile, or a squeeze of my hand will remind me to stop feeling sorry for us both, will remind me that I promised to care for her in sickness and in health, will remind me that maybe, just maybe things will get better if we dont give up. Dont give up Mate.
Martin 2,131 #20 Posted January 3, 2016 (edited) You guys that stick with your spouse or partner through thick and thin have the utmost respect from me. I have never been through what some of you deal with on a daily basis, but i can tell you I love my wife very much and i hope and pray that i would always have enough guts and glory to be there for her if something ever did happen. I know that she would be there for me if it was reversed. I whole heartedly agree with Mike about the caring for in sickness and in health, its what we all signed up for when the vows were exchanged. Prayers go out to all of you........ Edited January 3, 2016 by Martin can't spell......
