jb4249 131 #1 Posted December 16, 2015 I am beginning a project to sorta fix up and upgrade a 1967 Lawn Ranger, model L-107. I am doing a good cleaning of the frame and a repaint. The sheet metal went to be blasted and will be repainted also. The wheels are getting powder coated. The Techy engine is long gone, and the Briggs that came on it will be stored for another project to be determined later on. I am going to install a 212cc predator engine from Harbor Freight and probably a better seat. I have a mower deck for it but not sure if that will go back on. I'll post some picture but I have only just started this and will probably have a lot of questions when it comes to mounting the engine and getting a gas tank to work. I looked at a couple of posts here about doing this and will be using some of their ideas as I go along. The transmission was very stiff so I ran some kerosene through it. Powered it with an electric drill and pulley. Drained it twice and it is now free and shifts through all gears. Interested in any feed back. Thanks, Ted Here's how far I've gotten. Tomorrow I'll print the frame and the top of the Transmission. Ted

jb4249 131 #5 Posted December 16, 2015 Not my first Wheel Horse restore. I did an 854 a few years ago. I've been working on an RJ58 for a while. I got this Lawn Ranger when I went to pick up a K91 Kohler for my RJ. Ted

jb4249 131 #8 Posted December 22, 2015 Just an update. The frame is cleaned and painted and a few seals replaced, still waiting for one seal for the brake drum. I fitted the predator engine to the frame and lined it up. Looks like it is going to fit OK. The hood and sheet metal are still at the blasters. I still have some work to do on my engine mount. I am going to weld the engine bolts to the mounts from the bottom so I can just lift it off and drop it on. I used a 3" pulley on the new engine, looking for a bit more ground speed.

USHorse 41 #15 Posted December 28, 2015 Got to love that fresh red!!! Is that all from a rattle can? What kind of metal did you use to raise engine.....aluminum or steel?
jb4249 131 #16 Posted December 31, 2015 (edited) The paint is Rustoleum regal red. The metal under the engine is steel bar structure material I took out of a telephone office we were recycling, it is used to support cable trays and equipment. 2.5" channel. I removed them to paint them and will get a picture of them before I put them back on. Ted Edited December 31, 2015 by jb4249
jb4249 131 #17 Posted January 12, 2016 OK just updating the post. I have some of the paint work done and the engine mounted. I had to do some welding on the fenders, they were cracked. I am going to use an after market seat that mounts differently so I need to make a seat mount. Still waiting for the hood to come back from the metal guy that is helping me add some length to the hood to accommodate the new engine. Ted
SylvanLakeWH 25,465 #18 Posted January 12, 2016 Nice job here too!
jb4249 131 #20 Posted January 14, 2016 I've finished most of the painting. Mounted an aftermarket seat. I am still waiting for the wheels to come back from the powder coat shop, but I do have the tires ready to mount. I had to cut off the front 6" of the belt guard, and make a bracket to support the front of it where is was supported by the engine. I'll get a picture of that tomorrow.
jb4249 131 #21 Posted January 15, 2016 I started the engine yesterday, it started right up after I remembered to turn on the fuel. Ran smooth, and ran through all of the gears. I hope to get the wheels back today so I can test drive. still waiting for the sheet metal. Finished the bracket to hold the front of the belt guard. I'll get it painted red. jb4249 131 #24 Posted January 21, 2016 Th scold weather here is slowing progress. I did get the belt guard bracket finished and the front tires together and mounted. I am still waiting for the metal shop to complete the hood welding. I would like to try the tip forward hood to allow service and fueling. Ted
