Yesterday was spray day!   Yep the panels finally got their nice smooth shiny top coats...    As we didn't have the correct thinners and the nearest place to get some is quite a long drive away we used petrol..

 

I think they came out alright

 

 

 

 

 

 

The dyno-start went two tone..

 

 

 

To add a bit of detail and class......     Class on something called Horse Gut??     Nigel dug out his Beugler pin striping tool..

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And that chaps is where were up to... Tomorrow we can start carefully bolting it all back together

Thank you Sir, more updates on the way but not for much longer as HG is almost finished.. Your just have to put up with me updating Project Why Not instead

 

 

Slowly over the week HG has been bolted back together..

Still a few bits to finish off such as the fuel tank, a headlight blanking plate and putting on some custom decals that will be arriving from Mark (Meadowfield)

A bit more progress.. Nigel made a blanking plate to cover the headlamp hole in the bonnet/hood.

 

 

 

The fuel tank got a coat of red... A few dents add character

 

 

 

And a heavy duty tow hitch has been added

Stigian , What are the 4 levers used for ? I have been wondering about them since the start of the project.

Thanks for the reply , It looks Stigian may still be getting mud off Project Why Not and himself. Maybe he could use the Hoover to clean up. 

Make him take you to the Pub for a pint.

Yep, as Nigel says.. Left to right.. Diff lock, gears (4 forward 1 reverse), high/low ratios and finally PTO..  There is also a handbrake lever low down on the left side.

I'm quite clean now Jim, WN has a bit less mud on her too 

 

With not much left to do on HG apart from fitting a fuel tap and decals we decided to get her off the bench and out into the sun for a good look.. Me likes

Thanks Gary, the best way to get "talent" as you call it, is to just have a go. I'm self taught, you could be too

Thanks Pullstart, hopefully the following update will give you and idea on the poo drive malarkey

 

Just when you thought Project Horse Gut was finished, stage 2 starts

Take a pair of very old steel barrow wheels with bearings and cut the center out..

 

 

 

Once cleaned up the centers were a perfect fit for a Qwakasaki Z200 brake disc..

 

 

 

It's a good job I had two Qwaka brake discs sitting on the shelf..

 

 

 

A bit of welding later the discs were welded to a spare pair of Gutbrod wheels..

 

 

 

 

The wheels look much better with a clean up and coat of paint..

 

 

 

Soon to become part of the puzzle

Yep, that's right.. It's going to be a trailer.. A rather special trailer too

 

 

 

 

 

As with all these projects, some contemplation is needed, so Nigel and I put our thinking Cups on

 

They say there is a first time for everything, for me stripping an oil drum down to bare metal was certainly a first.. Hopefully a last as well as it wasn't fun!

 

 

 

 

Of course once every last bit of paint has been removed, out comes the red oxide and a coat or two of paint goes back on..

 

 

 

You may of noticed Nigel in the above photo actually doing something , he was painting the center of the wheels red..

 

 

 

What follows red oxide?      International Harvester Red of course   Have an arty shot of the inside of the barrel.

 

 

 

Red on the outside if a little blurred..

 

 

 

 

A detail shot of one of the trailer wheels, it just needs a red pinstripe to match Horse Gut.

 

 

 

The almost finished rig, we just need to find a shovel and get some "poo poo collector" decals made to go on the back..

Evening guy's, here's the last and final update on the Project Horse Gut story..

 

As some of you will know Nigel and I got an offer we just couldn't refuse.... So she went off to a new home..

 

Loaded in the trailer... The poo trailer was taken on a second trip before you all wonder how it was fitted in

 

 

 

 

I can't sing, so I won't finish on a song... So let's finish with a video instead...   Bye bye Horse Gut, it's been fun and a good laugh..

Hi Jim we always had in mind making a poo poo collector to go behind horsegut we have lots of posh women around here with horses and always thought one of these yummy mummy's would buy it, when it went for sale,now the poo poo drive stickers were just Ian and mines twist on uni drive it's our sad Brit sense of humour

Nigel and Ian perhaps you chaps would have a bit of luck with the posh women and their  horses by doing a bit of spiffing up. You know shave , haircut , cleaning all the grease off and wearing you best pub crawling clothes when you are trying to sell your marvelous tractors. As always we colonists will be waiting for the next Wheelhorse makeover.
