Turbo 12 #1 Posted November 14, 2015 Needed to replace one rear tire on a 416-8 today. Tire shop had two discounted E-Z-Go Backlash tires (23x10.50-12) so based on price and wanting a matched set, I went with them. Any thoughts on this type tire on the back of a 416-8? They were much cheaper than a comparable size lawn or Ag tire. The tractor will be used as a jack of all trades around a hobby farm. Seems to be a pretty aggressive tire and I'm sure will do well on traction, but I haven't seen anyone else with these type tires on a garden tractor so I wondered if there was a performance issue or simply a matter of appearance. The tire is typically used on jacked up ATV type golf carts and side by sides. Thanks for any thoughts. Greg
DennisThornton 4,771 #2 Posted November 15, 2015 I can't see them very well...Website says: "The 23x10-12 Backlash X tire has an All Terrain tread pattern which will work on dirt, in mud, on sand, on gravel, on grass, or on street."I suppose that purists might not care for them but I like them a lot better than 23x9.5x12 and way better than the 23x8.5x12 on some WHs. And for a great price?Google shows:
Don1977 604 #3 Posted November 15, 2015 We need pictures of your machine with the tries.. There are a lot of people using ATV type tires on garden tractors. Some say they get better traction. I put 25x 9.50x 12 Carlisle All Trail II on my 312-8. Mine have done every thing I need.[/U

boovuc 1,090 #5 Posted November 15, 2015 There are some "ATV" tires that are low pressure flotation tires and they are not what I would mow with. (Uneven cut, etc). However even a flotation tire can be over-pressured to make it more stable. I would consider it for winter duty just for the extra traction you can get from them.

I have to believe they will be a good compromise between standard lawn tires and full on cleated ag tires for basic yard chores. The tires that were on my "new" 416-8 were 23x9.50-12, and these Backlash tires I got are 23x10.50-12, thus slightly wider. Thanks for all the feedback guys, I really appreciate it. You seem to be coming up with all kinds of bargains, ATV tires work great and ride well too. I don't know about that. I wasn't even in the market for another project but this one was pretty much a no brainer price wise. I'm hoping after I get the tractor all cleaned and tuned up I can salvage many years of future use out of it. We need pictures of your machine with the tries.. My 416-8 isn't a show rig for sure, it looks as if it spent a great deal of its life sitting out in the elements.
Tankman 3,520 #7 Posted November 16, 2015 Those ATV donuts look great. What kind of $$$ are they askin'?
Turbo 12 #8 Posted November 17, 2015 Those ATV donuts look great. What kind of $$$ are they askin'? Tankman,Yea, they do look really cool mounted up. They stand slightly taller than the lawn tread tires too.I got the E-Z-Go Backlash 23x10.50-12 for $57 each. The tire shop normally charges $10 each for mounting but I was buying car tires as well so they waived the mounting fee. Then as it turns out they couldn't get the tires to expand to seat on the wheel, so they added tubes for free too. I think I did really well considering the regular Lawn tread tire I went to buy originally was around $87 each.
RedRanger 1,469 #9 Posted November 17, 2015 (edited) I run the Carlisle version on my Deere. Love them. Great traction without tearing up the lawn. Stick like suction cups in the snow. For an all around tire, they're perfect. 26x12-12Please excuse the Green boys. Edited November 17, 2015 by RedRanger
