arrkerr 54 #1 Posted November 11, 2015 I picked up a C-145 auto that has a very badly broken fender. It obviously doesn't affect the performance, but I want it to look right. I've never been a big fan of the huge lip around the back that makes filling the tank a lot more difficult than it should be. I'm thinking about picking up either a fender from something like a 3xx, or maybe even a metal one from the x-xx1 series (vs the 5). Does anyone have any experience doing this, and which might fit? Suggestions welcome!
AMC RULES 37,102 #2 Posted November 11, 2015 Swapped mine here... the 3, 4, 5 series pans will fit perfectly in place of the plastic version you have now.

N3PUY 1,031 #6 Posted November 12, 2015 I bumped too many trees with mine. This metal one is off a 310-8.
MalMac 1,331 #7 Posted November 12, 2015 (edited) Not 100% sure on this, but I think even Wheel Horse changed them to metal in the last months of the Blackhoods production. Here's mine with a pan off a 520. Edited November 12, 2015 by MalMac
shallowwatersailor 3,213 #8 Posted November 13, 2015 (edited) Somewhere in 1982-1983 Wheel Horse started building with the metal seat pan that was used on the Work Horse. You can tell an original metal pan because it does not have the bottom lip as on the 1985 and later 300/400/500 series. This is my '83 C-105. DennisThornton 4,769 #9 Posted November 13, 2015 I'm hoping the plastics were ok in the warm but absolute junk in the cold! I think most of the metal fender pans will fit. Might be some holes or other metal removal necessary but basically a swap.Worst thing I've seen from WH so far! But an easy fix with the abundant used tractors to choose from now a days....
WheelHorse79 271 #10 Posted November 13, 2015 (edited) The plastic fender/seat pan is the reason my Dad bought a leftover '79 C-101 instead of an '80 C-105. He didn't like the plastic and wisely bought the C-101 on 12/27/79 (I still have the receipt and the tractor). I agree that this was a mistake made by Wheel Horse. They usually made things tougher than they needed to be, but blew it on the plastic seat pans. Edited November 13, 2015 by WheelHorse79
shallowwatersailor 3,213 #11 Posted November 13, 2015 It probably makes a difference to a true collector of Wheel Horse tractors to have the plastic fender.
JackC 617 #12 Posted November 13, 2015 Plastic hood and plastic fender on my 1979 C-161 Black Hood. The initial production plastic fenders were much thicker and stronger than the later ones.
N3PUY 1,031 #13 Posted November 13, 2015 (edited) Everything above the footrests on this Wheel Horse is plastic. It's a 1973 and no rust! Edited November 13, 2015 by N3PUY
