grine_22 145 #2 Posted November 10, 2015 Had this come through to me last fall, bad carb or fuel pump. Once at home tore into it and found connecting rod was snapped, new rod and it purred like a kitten. Used it all summer to mow until I tied the rod to the crank. Got another motor in just debating another teardown and redo of paint....
RedRanger 1,468 #3 Posted November 10, 2015 (edited) I wouldn't paint it. Just clean it and buff it.It will shine like a diamond.Welcome! Edited November 10, 2015 by RedRanger
grine_22 145 #4 Posted November 10, 2015 Thanks! Need a few seals on tranny. Old man works at a mower shop down south so just waiting for him to ship them up here.
grine_22 145 #5 Posted November 12, 2015 I know I should have left it be, but I don't like 3 layers o paint on something, and it spots that were peeling. I think just the hood fenders and steps will be redone for now....
grine_22 145 #6 Posted November 15, 2015 Ain't had much time to work on stuff but did get some more of the hood brushed today, hopefully it'll be stripped clean by this weekend
Cole J. 71 #7 Posted November 23, 2015 Nice I'm on about the same step with my charger 10 restoration.

Its slowed down a little for me, works finally easing back but with it getting cold and the holidays haven't had much time lately seems like.
Cole J. 71 #10 Posted November 24, 2015 Yeah same here I would like to finish sanding but that will be it for a while until it warms up
grine_22 145 #11 Posted November 24, 2015 I had my cousin run the fenders through his burnoff oven at work and hit them with a little sandblasting, came out clean, just need to try and do a little body patching on a few spots that are pitted
Cole J. 71 #12 Posted November 24, 2015 It would be nice to have sandblaster it would be so much nicer
grine_22 145 #13 Posted November 25, 2015 Yes it would but a lil hard work never hurt anybody. Once I get time and my garage set up the way I want it I'll have more toys
Cole J. 71 #14 Posted November 25, 2015 Yeah my dad says he wants to do to the same. A little work never hurts anyone I wish by brother would figure that out.
Wishin4a416 2,191 #15 Posted November 26, 2015 Nice job so far. Keep up the good work!! You might want to put together a cheap e-tank to do the front. Eats away rust and reddish paints very well. Made short work of mine.
grine_22 145 #16 Posted November 26, 2015 ive read up on the process of that somewhat but havent had time to play around with assembling something. how does the sheet metal look coming out of the solution?
grine_22 145 #17 Posted November 26, 2015 Here is the rear panel, need to do some work on the pitting then I'll get primer on it till spring.
Brian01 481 #18 Posted November 26, 2015 Filler primer will fix most of the pitting. Put a coat on, let dry for a day or so and add another coat or two if nessecary.
grine_22 145 #19 Posted November 26, 2015 Picked up some filler primer on the way home, I'll give it a shot and see how it comes out.
Brian01 481 #21 Posted November 27, 2015 So? Cover the pitting on the first coat?
grine_22 145 #22 Posted November 27, 2015 It covered it somewhat but I'll put on at least 1 more coat of it and then sand it.
Brian01 481 #23 Posted November 27, 2015 Be sure its covered all the pitting well, and be careful when sanding, it is filler primer, but still is tedius.
Cole J. 71 #24 Posted November 28, 2015 I didn't get to work on mine since last weekend I haven't even finished sanding yet. Its a slow process
