Hydro Center console plate

Perry's 1277 might still be a little bit legible, it's hard to tell from this picture. Perry, can you post a better pic? What's your's look like up close?

I've got an 875 wheel-a-matic that's still legible, but I've love to have a decal for it. I'll try to roll it out in the sunlight this weekend and get a picture.

I was just looking through the gallery and Kelly has an 877 wheel-a-matic that looks like it may have a very legible center console, more so than mine.

A year or so back, there was a plastic center plate for sale on ebay. Black with white lettering. Must have been a later cross referenced part.

It had the cut outs for the set release and speed indicator window.

I asked the buyer if he would send me a photocopy, and he did. I contacted Terry/Vinyl guy and he made me a test sticker that is on my Charger now.

The photocopier slightly changed the aspect ratio, and I have been meaning to forward the actual measurements to him so he can sell these to others.

The quality is excellent and I am sure this would be popular. Not sure what tractors it would fit though.

(edited) I sent the correct dimensions to Terry today. If you need a shifter plate decal for a tractor that has the seat release, he'll have them in black and white soon.

I suspect he will also have a black on chrome version too at some point.

Once I got mine out in the sun it was not as nice as I thought it was. It didn't photograph well. I'm hoping Kelly can get a picture of his.

Here is the prototype Terry/Vinylguy made.

The aspect ratio was wrong so it was too wide, but I trimmed it and it looks pretty darn good to me. The final version will be really nice.

I have (finally, like after a year) sent him the correct measurements.

It might fit, and the labels look like they would correspond to the proper controls, but it is not "correct". The Charger 9 used a silver colored plate with black lettering. You can download the Charger 9 owner's manual from Toro's site. The plate is shown on page 5, although not very well.

Here's a blown up version of the Charger 9 one.... I have a nice original manual at home, I'll see if I can get a cleaner scan to post. The top says "DEPRESS FOOT PEDAL BEFORE RELEASING PARKING BREAK OR STARTING ENGINE"

If you cross reference the original plate I am fairly certain it will cross reference to the black and white (plastic?) plate that was the source for the one I showed above.

If Terry does a black on chrome version I guess it should be like the original however.

:banghead:

So, l I guess the answer is that the black and white one will be available first!

TD?

Here's the new scan from the Charger 9 manual.... would have had this a 1/2 hour ago, but I was trying to read what's printed in the black line.... the last three words were killing me.... "ENGAGE PARKING BREAK BEFORE DISMOUNTING OR STARTING ENGINE IN COLD WEATHER" Seems all the plates use the same lingo, just rearranged differently.

Should be really easy to do the opposite... all Terry has to do is take the negative in his editing software.

OK, so to summarize what I have seen so far there are two general form factors:

1)Charger 9/12 (?-1969-?)

-Mounts on top with 4 bolts

-Has a slot for seat release on the rear edge

-Silver metal with black silkscreen or

-Black with white lettering

Known part numbers:

-Original for Charger 12- 7559 "Plate Cover" (Silver/black)

-Cross ref from 7559- (Toro site is not working, will try to get this later)

2) 1077/1277 (?-1967-?)

-Mounts underneath the rails

-Extends well past the seat to the rear with trans/battery info

-Threaded for mounting?

-Silver metal with black silkscreen

Known Part numbers:

This is a very interesting image. It appears that the dash is stainless or chrome on top and that the center is white with black and the bottom is black

The floor or console plate appears chrome with black which is

possible and then do the bottom by adding a black and white decal over the bottom of the chrome. Also would like a template for the

small white height adjust decal

If I had accurate templates for all those it would really help complete a lot of kits. And Save A Lot of Horses.

I notice the center cap on the steering wheel has what appears to be a horse and tire logo on a white background. were these on most of these tractors originally and if so what is the correct diameter?

Thanks

Jason,

Yes, but the newer style has different information. So it would seem the older version should have the older text and layout whereas the b/w should have the newer layout (and the tortoise and hare). :banghead:

All I wanted was something nicer than a poorly painted panel!

Does anyone know when the flip-up fenders stopped being made? My guess is the black /white one is from a C series.

I think the height adjust decal on my Charger is in fair shape I will look at it Friday and let you know. If it is what will you need a pic or will you need me to send it to you?

cool... Eric... do you have a scanner? Can you scan that and send it to Terry, or throw it on a copy machine and mail him the copy?

Be really cool if we could talk Ken into laser etching them... but that would probably be cost prohibitive! (would probably look awesome though!)

If I had accurate templates for all those it would really help complete a lot of kits. And Save A Lot of Horses.

The metal dash panels started with a "brushed" chrome plating over which was screen printed the black printing and lower "reverse" printing. The name "Wheel Horse" was printed in red on the top section for the gear drive tractors and the hydro tractors received the "Wheel A Matic" name in red.

The small raised center strip was also brushed chrome and usually shows up in a picture as white because of the angle of reflection.

The early center automatic "console" plates were plated in the same brushed chrome as the dash and were screen printed in black. I don't remember them having any white sections, but it is possible as I haven't seen any nice OEM pieces.
