thehorse 221 #1 Posted October 19, 2015 Hello all, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the c-111.I believe they were made in 1980 something and have an 11 hp Brigs.Im assuming a c series other than that. Is there anything I should know about the model if I'm looking at picking one up? Thanks

HorseHead1089 100 #3 Posted October 20, 2015 i have had experience with 2 C-111, the block is lighter than a kohler but it still has good torque and can pull the front tires off the ground about 4 inches in 3rd gear on pavement. Really reliable carb, i couldn't flood it, one thing you can do for like 40 bucks is convert it to electronic ignition just by buying a new coil, and putting it where the old armature was. other than that, it was super reliable and had a lotta gut. doc724 925 #4 Posted October 20, 2015 My first Wheelhorse was a C111. It performed well enough that I kept it for 17 years before I bought a 314. I did have the engine rebuilt and electronic ignition was installed at that time. The biggest concern I had was that it was an aluminum engine with cast iron cylinder liner at a time when all other engines (Kohler) were cast iron. Other than the engine, it is identical to any other c series of that era.
rick 237 #5 Posted October 24, 2015 Fellows, don't demean the aluminum block engines! i have had a bunch of 'em, and given 'em hell! They stand up as well as anything else as long as they are cared for.
Molon_Labe 731 #6 Posted October 25, 2015 I love my old C-111 which is now re-powered with a K241. It takes care of all of the grass cutting and sweeping duties. My favorite go-to tractor! I did cut the hood where the Briggs air cleaner notch was and eliminated the shaker mount for the engine but otherwise it's the same tractor. I badged it a C-101 because of the year and engine (1979).
