Dave 0 #1 Posted November 25, 2008 Oops... shouldn't that be a K181? It's an 8hp Kohler. It seems to be a carb problem. It runs as long as I spray starter fluid in the carb. The fuel pump seems to be working. I disconnected the fuel line at the carb and cranked the motor and fuel spurted out. Is there a source or a carb rebuild kit? any other suggestions? sorekiwi 761 #2 Posted November 25, 2008 Any Kohler dealer or decent sized small engine shop should have a carb kit on the shelf. I think I've got them from Napa too. Give the carb a good cleaning too. Remove the needle and low speed adjuster. I think the "Chemdip" type soak is the best, followed by a blast through all the orifices with water, compressed air then an aerosol carb cleaner. Failing that give it a real good blast out with carb-clean. The Kohler manual will give you start settings for the needles.
linen beige 14 #3 Posted November 25, 2008 Sounds like a carb problem to me too. Either a stuck float/needle or too much crud in a jet/passage. Kits for these carbs are available just about everywhere that sells small engine parts. They're cheap too!
Dave 0 #4 Posted November 25, 2008 Thanks guys. It looks like I have another weekend project for this weekend. That makes about 8 projects and 7 of them involve using the tractor. :hide:
