Need to cut a trench for a french drain.  Has anyone ever fabricated an implement for this task or is there an existing implement that will do that?

YUP, made this attachment but not for a french drain. Buried my utilities and other things but doubt this will help you at the moment.
How deep do you have to go? Maybe you can rig something up with a moldboard plow. Dig as far as it will go hooked up normally and then fabricate something to hold it down deeper in the trench??? Just thinking out loud.

If you have quite a bit to do you can rent a real trencher for the day.

Very impressive but way way beyond my ability.  I do have a moldboard plow through

I once used a skid-steer loader with pallet forks to dig a drain-line some 60' or so.
Put the forks side by side and a little forward tilt and dug the trench about 12" deep from the house to the ditch.

Just to clarify.  Wondering about some sort of rig for a wheelhorse.  Like maybe a tool bar with some sort of spade attached.

thanks

My neighbor used his Xi WH to trench a dog fence wire around his yard by using a 3/4" all thread bar through a simple modified hitch attachment. The tractor's weight plus his own weight and low range and he simply drove his tractor around the perimeter of the yard. It was NOT without hiccups! :< )

He hit rocks! He bent the bar several times! He rattled it loose several times but he accomplished the wire hide in a fraction of what it would have taken him by hand. I did the same thing with for my Dish Network install for 50+ feet in my side yard. This buried it 6 to 8 inches. If your doing a water line below frost level or electric lines to code, it won't work.

PS........This doesn't work in Mid August/Dry cracked yards!
