73auto10mo 0 #1 Posted September 15, 2015 Hey everybody, Try to replace the shaft on my center spindle, but can't figure out how to get it apart. I can't find any snap ring, pins or anything holding it together. I have tried to press it apart but that isn't working either. Can someone enlighten me to what I am doing wrong. I believe it cam off of a 36" or 42" deck. It has a barrel with bearings at the ends and the shaft is running through middle of course. Right now I have it sitting in my press with pressure on it and oil sitting in the top trying to get it to loosen up so it will come out. Any help is greatly appreciated. pacer 3,175 #3 Posted September 15, 2015 Yes, a pic is almost a necessity - there are SOOO many types of spindles! Otherwise its just gonna be a guessing game ... with none being the needed answer.

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,241 #6 Posted September 15, 2015 This file was created to aid in the identification of the spindle assemblies.http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/file/671-chart-spindle-id-mower-rotary-1969-1989-35-pagespdf/Click on a line in the index and it will take you to a single page that illustrates all the assemblies used on that deck over the years.Garry
daveoman1966 3,807 #7 Posted September 15, 2015 (edited) The spindle for older 36" decks uses a PRESS FIT bearing # 103119 and it can be a BEAST to remove. I always stand it on a 2" metal pipe and WHACK it HARD with a BFH. ...sometimes repeatedly. It only comes out one way...drive it out from the BLADE end.It looks like this one: Edited September 15, 2015 by daveoman1966
slammer302 2,156 #8 Posted September 15, 2015 If you cant get it apart i may have a spindle that you need. I also have have a 20T press that may get the job done. i'm about 40 minutes from springfield
73auto10mo 0 #9 Posted September 16, 2015 The assembly that daveoman1966 posted is exactly what I have. I got the spindle out of the hub but can't get the shaft and bearings out of the sleeve part. I have it in a 20 ton press now with pressure on it and oil sitting on top of it so that maybe it will break loose. If anybody does have a new assembly (yeah right) I would gladly buy it.
