pacer 3,176 #1 Posted September 14, 2015 Last fall I put together a nice C-175 with 48" deck for dedicated use with my Cyclone leaf vacuum system. With this in mind I figured a set of hi-lift blades should be just what I needed (I had never owned any) so off to 'the bay' I went and chose a set that were a bit more reasonable in cost (no, I'm afraid I dont remember who) I installed them and away I went to do some leaf/pine straw 'suck up', well, to say I was disappointed is an understatement - it was leaving way too much not picked up. With the Cyclone not running the deck cut grass very nicely. I figured it must have been the WH deck design being the problem. I had been using a Yard Man to run the Cyclone and it needed to retire, but I went back to it to finish the season and as usual, it did a much better job.So to skip forward to now I get the 175 out of storage to get ready to sell it. I pull the deck for clean up and remembered the blades so removed them thinking I would maybe try again on a D tractor. On laying them on the bench next to a 'regular' set of blades to see just how hi-lift blades compared - I was quite surprised. I had thought the hi-lifts would have a more pronounced 'curl' on the tip to create the lift --- not in these anyway! The blade on top is a 'conventional' blade with the hi-lift on the bottom, and in the other pic, regular on left and hi-lift on right. So, whats the scoop on hi-lift blade design? danjmah 71 #3 Posted September 14, 2015 (edited) I used that type once and got the same results as you. I get great results with the WH high-lift blade that came with my 37" deck.8 115083 High Lift Blade (includes item 9) RH side 19 105194 Lift Tab Kit (includes items 10 & 11) 110 108686 BOLT 5/16-18X5/8 411 108687 NUT-LOCK 5/16-18 4 Edited September 14, 2015 by danjmah
dcrage 629 #4 Posted September 14, 2015 The WH high lift blade on the 37" does help -- Isn't that the only deck that was designed for non motorized bagging of yard debris?? -- I haven't priced that blade from Toro if it is still available -- I could use a new one since mine is approaching 25 years of age -- I would suspect major $s! -- I know I just bought a new belt for my 37" deck from Toro -- $72!! pacer 3,176 #5 Posted September 14, 2015 Well after seeing the pic of that 37" blade design it has planted a thought seed (thats sometimes dangerous) heck Im not gonna try them on a big D and just have to turn around and pull them off -- so, I think I'll just look into adding a "wing?" to them like the 37's.
