Dieselcowboy 210 #1 Posted September 14, 2015 Is it possible to take a starter/gen electric start engine and use it as a pull start only. What would have to be changed in order to do this ?
pfrederi 18,345 #2 Posted September 14, 2015 Most of the S/Gs I have seen have battery coil ignition systems. No S/G for juice no run. Pull start would have to have a magneto ignition.
slammer302 2,156 #3 Posted September 14, 2015 I'm sure im missing a few things but i will try to answer your question any ways. i believe you will need a flywheel from a pull start engine and the coil and the what nots under the flywheel off a pull start engine and a pull start of course. i have a pull start kohler on my B-60 and love it but it is kinda of a bear to pull thank goodness it starts first or second pull everytime
953 nut 58,024 #4 Posted September 14, 2015 The large flywheel pulley on most S/G Kohlers has a notch for a pull start. If you have a battery to supply the 12 volts for the ignition coil you could just remove the belt and wrap a rope around the pulley. Charge up the battery on occasion and all should be well.
