Hopefully assembly will take place soon....for the gear drive,  the engine pulley is 5.5 inches correct?  Because I have to order one for the huge crank on the 20 hp mag.  Edited by HorseHead1089

Hello Horsehead,
Nice work on the tractor. regarding the picture orientation open the picture in picture viewer and then rotate it to the way you want it and save it again.

I've been doing some research on pulleys,  and I can't seem to find one with a 3 3/8 bore and the diameter for the gear drive, maybe I can get a 6 inch in there without modding the tins? Any help on tracking down pulleys and pulley size info would be great.

Wow... just some snooping around, it looks like the 8 sppeds require a 4 inch not a 5 inch is that correct? I dont know why i thought it was that big, can anyone confirm a 4"?

Yes 4".      With that said....Require is such a strong word. you could go bigger, especially with a M20.

Thanks, now it just down to finding a right size pulley with the right size bore, with setscrews or some sort of separate locking collar?

I tried to find it, but didnt... What size is the crankshaft on your M20?

The crank measures out to 1 3/8 of an inch.

And I found a 4 inch with a 1 3/16 bore in the pulley, however it is still to narrow...

Can you take a stock WH pulley to a machine shop and have it bored and re keyed?

a 4" pulley is stock on the 8 speeds but you can use a bigger one, it will just make you go faster... :handgestures-thumbupright:

Right on 953! Thanks for that,  I assume a 1/4 inch will not change the need for a stock belt?

You should be alright, the clutch on an 8 speed helps make up some of the difference if its minimal.

It's been a long week of school, but due to buying parts like a madman I gotta re route time from the 320 to other things like my 10hp K series and some craftsman I picked up for cheap to sell later. Well that's in the shop today so I guess that's the first order of business. 20151024_092508.thumb.jpg.6cbc2aa3216f7aI also mounted up the motor plate on the 320, I can already see that 20hp bulging out the side of the narrow hood.

Quick question before I go get more parts, what is the easiest way to strip paint from a carb, or do you guys prefer painted carbs?

I've used the gallon can of carb cleaner one can find from most auto parts stores. It comes with a basket that you can set parts inside to soak. I've submerged entire carburetors in it and allowed them to soak for a few hours before I was able to take a nylon brushe to clean off the paint on the carb body.

Yes it is, no one felt like selling one on ebay and I didn't feel like making one so I just bought a new one. It's bolted down with brand new Shiney stuff I'll get a picture tonight. Also bought this on sale 6/12v with auto charge rate and float maintainer/trickle charge has wheels and range of options from sears I throw some more pictures up of this as well.20151025_180042.thumb.jpg.9e88af66a92d47

Well that's the brand new motor mount, and there are more pics of the new battery charger. Also that 10hp K series is currentley up for grabs if someone feels like making an offer.20151030_200154.thumb.jpg.762d1efa5bfd2720151030_200301.thumb.jpg.6b71590673cf3720151030_200307.thumb.jpg.504412607c7f5b20151030_200323.thumb.jpg.a8c5762194f0ce20151030_200341.thumb.jpg.f1874f6a33eaf7

Looking good so far. New parts are nice luxury on occasion.

Looking forward to seeing the 320-8 finished

Yeah me too, it may take a while because he offered to do it for way less than full price if I didn't need it done right away and I could wait after some of his higher pay jobs got finished.

Ok,  so in the pto of a wheel horse, there is a sleeve,  that goes over the crank, and under the needle bearing of the pulley cone,  what steel is that made out of,  I'm looking to have it turned or order a new piece of metal stock for the oversize crank of the m20, I figure it would be easier to try this than to immediately rip the crank from the motor and turn and re key.

Well 4 pages deep and several months since an update, I bet you guys thought I gave up! Nope, in fact it's been real exciting. That quick flip of a craftsman turned into an engine rebuilding nightmare and that was not fun. I have yet to sell that sorry piece of machinery. On the 320 front, we have the parts sandblasted and painted from the shop done, and now ready to put back together. As far as the motor, no progress has been made on it since I have had barley anytime to work at all! Now I have her resting on all fours and I just need some cotter pins and other hardware. This has been quite an interesting build so far!
