actually, he's got 2 out of 200.  That makes Scott a 1-percenter.

Nice grab!

Dual wheels broke a 1&1/8th inch axle? I sure won't ever be running dual wheels on any of mine. Thanks John for the heads up!

Great fine!
It always blows my mind to think that someone shelled out 6 or 7K for one of these limited edition machines (cant remember the actual price when new) and then mows with it like its a department store cheapie. And to top it of they don't even clean it!!

The 6-7 k was 30 years ago. Now it would be about 15k. The LSE looks nice. Your starting to corner the market with LSE's!!

My question is ( How can you brake an axle ? ) Id like to know in hopes of avoiding it.  Iv owned a lot W H machines over the years and put them through a lot of hard work and situations and never broke an axle. ( YET )
I did however see a W H that broke off the rear hitch from the bottom of the trans-axle housing from over loading a trailer but that can be a week spot. Because of this, a long time friend and fellow W H owner who works for me part time we are planning on designing and building a rear draw-bar hitch that attaches to the above outer axle area and upper frame under the seat. Sort of a fixed 3 point hitch but can be adjusted for height.

It' all ready been done. I also raised the fender bracket, gas tank, and fender 1 3/4" and added a receiver hitch..

A bit OT but... I worked for Delta Air lines as equip repairman. The airlines use those familiar "Tugs" (tractors?) to pull the bag carts around, so as you can imagine those things are built like a tank, but even so I had one break an 1 1/2" axle! in all the many years I worked there it was the only one. I took it home thinking I'd use it for -- something? So one day I chucked it up in the lathe and ----WHOA! that thing was HARD! Later I annealed it and it made some fine metal.

So it could just be a one in many that comes along with a flaw in the steel...

I'm not a metalurgist, but many of the axles I have seen broken on here were pretty obviously defected from the factory, but even so, took them 20-40 years to finally give way!

A hairline fracture or poor internal crystal structure can cause rusting from the inside out weakening the axle so one day it just goes!

The tugs we had in the USMC were built from 1/2" steel plate.

I feel very fortunate to say the least.  It isn't perfect, but like I said about the first one.....it exists in my collection now.

is there any way to determine which number this one is?  It does not have the number on the hood plaque and the id tag (sticker) is faded and unable to be read.

      Hello All,
New to the group and looking for advice. My father was a devoted wheel horse enthusiast for many years. He only cut grass with a wheel horse tractor (rear discharge deck) pulling a Parker lawn sweeper. We have a lot of property and it took him a while but he was retired and loved being on the wheel horse. When he got sick, I had to take over all the lawn maintenance. All of our family lives close on the same road. At the time, I was responsible for maintaining 7 properties plus my fulltime job. Using the wheel horse was not an option for me so I bought a commercial zero turn mower.  Unfortunately, in 2017 my father passed away. I have all his tractors and it has been hard for me to think about what to do with them. He had 6 wheel horse tractors total. 3 tractors we used for cutting grass and 3 tractors are show pieces that have never cut a blade of grass. I have a few guys that have been asking me for years to sell them but I am not sure if I’m ready. I am turning to the group because I am lost at what I even have. Its my belief that the tractors are rare and the conditions are mint. If anyone would be willing to express their opinion and provide feedback I would be grateful.

Bought this 420 LSE. It’s #37/200. More of a worker than a show tractor. I’ll probably continue to use it as a worker. Needs some cosmetic elbow grease more than anything.
Came with 48” deck, & wheel horse grass catcher system, Snow Blower, 2 aerators, (plug & spike type), & a grass thatcher.

So about a year ago jimt1971 started talking with Pilgrim regarding a worker 420LSE.  Long story short the neighbor or friend (I can't remember which) purchased the tractor to use.  We werr okay with this as we were told that if the person who got it didn't like it, he might get it back.  Fast forward to a few weeks ago, Jimt1971 got word that pilgrim got the tractor back and wanted to see if he was still interested in purchasing it.  The price was agreed to, and we hoped that Pilgrim could make it to the WHCC show😥 unfortunately he was not able to make it, sooo we agreed to go out to his place to pick it up.  We left at 5:30am, and started our 12 hour road trip...got to Pilgrims, and got to spend a small amount of time with him and his wife before having to head back home.  I have to say that Pilgrim and his wife are two of the most genuine people I have had the pleasure of meeting.  They were amazingly sweet, and a pleasure to do business with.  Today we got to take a better look at the tractor, and we plan on restoring it back to its former glory.  The one thing thatvwill remain is the decal from the mower shop that it came from to preserve its history!!

Without further adeau, here are the pics
