jsp_333 273 #1 Posted August 18, 2015 Bought an rj35 a year ago that was in pretty good shape but engine wasn't complete. Last photo. Finally found a couple of k-90's this week and am going to buy them both. Photos 1-4.The green one has the gas tank on top of the engine. Owner says he's going to keep the gas tank.I don't have a problem with that but wasn't sure if the engine could be used on my rj.Or if extensive modifications are required for the engineAlso - If it will work, any suggestions on how to make it look like the other two ie. a 55 year old engine.Cheers, jsp
MikesRJ 552 #2 Posted August 18, 2015 The gas tank you're looking for looks like this; The engine should look like this when you complete yours:
jsp_333 273 #3 Posted August 18, 2015 My gas tank is mounted under the hood of the tractor right now.Probably should have mentioned that. Also I have the carb and air filter for the original engine. Looks exactly like yours. I'm assuming I'll be running a gas line from the float(?? the glass thing under the gas tank) to the engine.I think I see the gas line running into the carb of the green engine and it appears that the gas tank is bolted to the engine on topand at the carb where the air filter housing will go. Correct??? Why would the gas tank be attached to the carb? Is there an air filter component to it? So I just put on the air filter housing and run new gas line to my tank. Easier said then done naturally.jsp
MikesRJ 552 #4 Posted August 18, 2015 (edited) The bowl is a fuel shut-off and strainer, and yes, you will run a hose from there to the carburetor on its left side (looking forward on the tractor) as shown below. There are a series of high resolution pictures of my restoration on the following web page. They may come in handy to you. I would venture to say that mine is abut the most accurate restore you're likely to find, so you can count on the correctness of what you see in the photos. The only thing incorrect in all those photos is the bowl on the carb. In the images it is shaped like a tuna can, but should be a half round. I'll see if I can get a picture of the engine today, as it has the correct bowl on it now. Didn't when these pics were taken. And I guess you could say the ty-wraps are incorrect as well. http://www.mywheelhorse.com/modules.php?name=docs2&do=show_doc&id=34EDIT: Add Picture of correct bowl Edited August 20, 2015 by MikesRJ
